Shouldn't your ROPS bars from the rear arches to the main hoop join adjacent the upper side intrusion bar i.e. effectively form one long section? Yours join in the middle of a section of the main hoop.
Looking good though.......52ish days to get it done..........
Cams manual doesn't have a condition for this parts alignment. There is a coverall stating 100mm centers for bar ends and other junctions, which this is within. it was aligned with the original side intrusion bars which were higher to suit the taller seat position. and due to rearward location of the rear legs couldn't be angled any lower as they hit the wheel tub top. If I have issues I'll cut them out altogether as they are non required. Don't remind me about time. Im too time stressed as it is. I hope to have the painting finished before bubs arrives! as Im pretty sure I have no chance to actually finish it. I'm guessing on my days for offering 'care' I can sit baby in the office and do mechanic-ing and wiring while it sleeps...How naïve am I! I don't know but I have been told I was raised on a workshop bench too and I turned out pretty fucked up!
No updates, other thing have taken priority. Was waiting on a few things for the escort , had a week while I waited, thought Id swap the engine in the subazuki. Baby is only 4 weeks away thought Id bring it home from hospital in a flame shooting swift.
As it turned out the parts I was waiting for took 3 days and the engine transplant has been a marathon
yeah, nah, not on the escort. Baby arrived good friday, but subazuki wasn't ready so bought another car to transport the family. Despite best enthusiasm Ive only been up the workshop 1-2 times a week and most of this time has been spent on completing the engine conversion, including getting a new ECU as it turns out the original one had a dodgy ignition circuit, all fixed now! and it just takes so much time to rewire engine bays, mount oil coolers, mount ecu on custom mounts to clear gear change cables, re-fuel line the thing including remove entire rear suspension to get fuel tank out to upgrade to 255LPM pump and build an exhaust with cat converter to fit an AWD swift. 22 individual parts from head to drivers bum! But that's mostly done bar remote mounting brake fluid reservoir more appropriate sized throttle wheel and dyno tuning it. the rest of the time has been spent modifying the' new' car with spare parts I had lying about. Lowered, disk brakes all round including larger fronts, hyundai elantra! steelies painted hi temp white and some stereo stuff...not bad for $546.39 insured!
But this is an escort thread, so nothing to report other than a few new parts keep rolling in as and when I think to buy them, oh and I swept around and under it...
So I finally broke out the grinder and welder and made some real progress on the escort. The side intrusion bars clipped the front of the seat so I needed to move it about 5mm inboard. With this work its actually 20mm more central utilising the previous outer floor mo8unts and a new tunnel mount.
all gusseted up nicely
and now the seat fits
needing the new deep dish OMP
So onto diff hump/tank floor and which is all cut and shaped just needs welding in. Hopefully next weekend. Ive also taken a Monday a fortnight off for the rest oft he year to dedicate to the workshop!
all panels came through SMCKA, still to fit are steel bubbles and a complete front panel including radiator surrounds. No pattern parts are perfect all have needed fettling of some order to fit.
got to play with the escort today, checking the harness still fits and where it might bolt up...still need to weld in the plates etc for that. then decided to get it on the floor so I can fit the arches. Need it at ride height to align wheels. They are along way back...which may not be a bad thing?
but centered
and it looks like the arches will fit without additional widening replaced the front falcon studs with super long ones and 20mm spacer
and the front wheel fits well
needs bringing forward a long way though...not sure I have enough length in the compression strut? probably a relatively easy fix with new tubular struts!
