Last one was an FJ body on a brass chassis, with a 26D motor from memory.
My 3 brothers were into SCs. I wasn't.
However one of them is still hugely into them and is a frustrating source of limited information.
The Reynard has bought back just how fiddly these things are.
Ive now taken it for a fang twice. This thing is hugely over powered for its handling ability, at the moment [STD]
Bro said loosen all the body mounts, and let it flex. [this car is a special and is released as a racing car and has sticky tires and flexy body with unique chassis with flex points built in, so that is covered]
But there is still adjustment to be had by loosening the screws in the chassis, to let it flex etc
So I bought some stickier ? tires.
Now its just not a mater of rolling these things on, as the next outing they rolled off the rims. [Bro said I need to glue them on, with super glue and true them up on some 600 grit wet and dry and use water to keep them cool ....of cause I didn't listen]
So I have, now, bought a heap of parts [costs more than initial outlay] to tune the chassis.
No one tells you a definitive answer on what works and doesn't, as they all have their theories. The common answer is try it and see.
A bit different! I like how its yellow, like the escort, does this make it feel more like the real thing. I cant comment though as without the escort I started buying, building or restoring these. was almost spending more on them than ever on the escort so I bought a real car instead.
Why I have 10 I dont know but I do have a couple of special ones: Full carbon fibre saloon car, brushless, lipos every available performance improvement...costs too much to drive Off road monster, bought the kit new for a steal then replaced everything I could in Alloy goes like a cat out of hell I have several of these, this standard one, a full carbon one a custom carbon chassis and one to mess around with The last full unbuilt boxed kit like above I saw for sale was nearly 1000 pounds as they are a rare actual scale RC car the collectors love them...I havenet spent anywhere near that as I built them up from leftovers or new comprable parts not original. HoweverI have a good condition box, and new model specific parts including the correct shell...It may pay for everything we own in the UK to be shipped back to oz If I can find a buyer.
Good luck getting the reynard to handle, check out James may's toy stories where he recreates...sort of, the famous Brooklands circuit in full scale scaletrix.
They come in yellow blue and orange, so s it wasnt hard to make a decision on color.
Funny how people digress from escort mania.
I bought junior a electric RC car for his 4th birthday [well that's what I told everybody] Funnily we only got it out a few months ago and he had a fang [hes now 9] He busted up the front wishbones etc and it needed a rebuild. Probably what started the SC trend in me. Somewhere around here I have a [ancient] petrol on road RC car.
Dad used to work for a toy company import/export and we got to try all the latest toys or versions of them. Scaletrix and hornby was popular, its only more recently that I realised us kids were and excuse for dad to bring it home and build a scale scenery complete with mountains and tunnels etc for the trains and we had enough scaletrix to circumnavigate the house...good times and we kids enjoyed it too. Pity they dont have an asylum green reynard.
I used to race an Esci modified MK2 Escort to run on a 3 lane race track just for 1/24th scale..it was sideways most of the time, but still out in front!
Roger, I picked the Escort for the fun...there was no way I could keep up, both financially and time wise with the others I was racing against. So I may as well had fun while I gave it a go!
damn youtube! saw a clip a few months ago of real RC cars and had to have one: FG Competition 1:5 scale short wheelbase 3hp porsche gt2 8mm thick CNC machined competition alloy chassis arms, mounts etc fully adjustable double wishbone suspension on each corner and i mean everything is adjustable Yes 4 wheel disk brakes rear hubs, and tyres...there are tyre warmers available for those things yes that is a normal sized 1:10 scale tamiya touring car on top needs a good clean and a big open space to run, GPS confirmed 73 miles an hour and weighs about 12 kgs
Gearing these things has been difficult to comprehend. Initially I had a very low gearing which was fun. .....come out of a fast corner and give it some and the back end just drifted all the way down the straight...and then at the corner it would stop in 2 lengths of itself. [an electric motor becomes a generator when power is removed and turning. This power is shorted thru controller when in idle position ] On tighter corners, nailing it would send the back end wagging down the first meter of track. Most others would have added lead weight to effect a change.....I am resisting.
Unlike a 1:1 car this thing will just spin up the rear wheels. So it needs to be "toned" down via gears.
One issue I had with it was getting it physically low enough. It comes with a unique chassis that is adjustable via screws for lowering. Alas this leaves the heaviest part of car, sitting high, the motor. I devised a way of fitting a complete different rear axle assembly. This killed 2 birds.... as then I could brace up the rear end with spring steel wire and stop the flex in the gear drive area.
Very early on it became apparent the tracks I run on provide a lot of grip and the chassis can be stiffer. To effect this I have taped up the flex slots.
FLY don't make a very good car. So lots of mods are required to make them quick.
Number one was the motor had to go. In went a NSR 25,000 rpm unit. New slot it gears gears and NSR axle and 19.5 x 12 NSR Ultragrips. I had to relieve the body a bit to get them off the guards.
Next the front axle was not located so in went some brass tube. I kept the front wheel assembly and ground down the tires to my liking.
