Making good progress, chuck a few sickies and keep going!
Any reason to use ratcheting straps? would they not be heavier and a bit unnecessary?

I thought I had read in other threads that scrutineers had rejected ratchet straps on fuel tanks?

Ill probably stay with the metal straps and reinforce and beautify the bolt fixings. Might actually be quicker than a new restraint system.

I've been using ratchet straps in the Mk2, if the rated strength is high enough for the weight, no scrutineer can fail them.

They haven't come loose yet. I will try and get some photos on the weekend if I remember.

more goodies have arrived
New wiring loom, front and rear adjustables and new springs, comp struts and drop links

can now double check heights and angles and weld it all back together...yay

I have this to contend with...to many new parts not enough room (first world problems I know)

But built a fake thin wall diff to check measurements and alignments.

then bolted it in

everything seems to mate up

also built a pair of fake intercoolers to see which might fit. Forgot photos but spray them silver and they'd look just like the real thing. That being a cardboard intercooler sprayed silver!
How do you guys get them to fit. Not a chance either of these common sizes could be maneuvered into place???

Amazing how long it all takes.
Trimmed and fitted yet to be welded

just need to trim and fold back the edges now

and 30mm extra bump clearance

Are you not extending the top of the chassis where you notched it?

I hope I don't need too. I have added a 3mm plate to inside of the rail and will attach the other side to the turret skirt which should be plenty strong enough to hold the bum of the ground. all suspension loads are now forward of, or above this point.

Been working too hard earning money so progress slowed a bit but today I managed to rough in the rear bulkhead.
decide to completely conceal the turrets as they are slightly behind the center line of the axle. so folded up the top sheet and cut access holes and formed the recesses. all yet to be welded and I might rigidise the seat back panels first with some dimples






I have also stripped the bushings out of one of the bilstein struts. What a bastard of a job! had to make a tool specially for this task. Only to find the thick wall strut tube wont allow the Konis to fit so the tubes need to be replaced with 2mm or 2.5mm thick wall or machined out.

Bit more done today.
seat rails.
Will add captive bolts every 30mm for adjustment or I wont see how I feel.
Can get the seat a good 110mm further back and 30mm closer to center and 50m lower than the last one. Put a 15 mm rake to the rear as well.

You planning on moving the rear cage to the new turrets?

No.

I don't think there is enough gain for the effort. 7 bars to be cut out to move them 50-60mm. If it was felt as the thing to do I might brace them against the existing cage with a fillet or extra bar stub facing backwards.

seat bars welded in with captive nut/tubes set into the existing floor.


Re-modeled the rear bulkhead sides and stiffened them



Ill start on the axle mounts tomorrow and hopefully have the back end ready to sit on the ground soon.
Will most probably dry build it and send the insides for sand blasting soon.

some more done today.
cleaned up the strut knuckle in preparation for new strut tubes

then turned my attention to the cage.
New spreader plates for the front legs and new A and B pillar gussets. turned out Ok I think




Will weld them in once the cage feet are done and no twist is needed to fully weld around the base of the tubes.
I will be putting bars trhrough the firewall to the front strut towers.

engine in and held in by welded mounts...gearbox sitting on jack until new bushes arrive so I can make the mount
