QLD REgo SIV/ Car Club

HI All
Could someone give me some advice on rego(SIV) in QLD and any details which Club I could join that would meet requirements for the SIV rego. pros n cons...
any feedback appreciated

I am a member of HRCC (Qld historic racing car club). No only can you get club rego but the club organises sprints, regularity, hill climbs and historic racing. Great club to join.

Having had a couple of my cars and bikes on the SIVS, I only now have one car on it, and as it is basically a race car it works OK. I find generally that the rules
limit the use too much. The car can be used on club runs or a test drive within 15Klms of your home. This doesn't mean you can drive over to a mates place or to work 10 Klms away, as the test run is not to achieve any other purpose. You can use the run buy parts for the vehicle, or to take it to a repairer. No the repairer can't be in Cairns.

I am hoping we take up the scheme that is in use in Victoria and SA that allows 90 days of log booked usage, although they seem to frown on even slightly modified historic vehicles, where we in QLD seem to be able to have our historic vehicles registered with any mod that is legal.

With my old bikes I have mostly made them single seaters so rego is only about $220 a year anyway, instead of about $190 for SIVS.

I've had historic rego for many years and occasionally take my cars for a drive outside the 15km zone. Never had an issue. If you drive like a sensible person you are mostly fine. One car runs a half cage, racing harnesses, low, loud and grumpy.

Alan M, that is not quite true about being hard to get modified vehicles on to club plates here in VIC.

To qualify for the Club Plate Scheme you need to show VicRoads either a Roadworthy Certificate from a mechanic or a letter from the authorised club person confirming the car is roadworthy.

So really VicRoads have no say as to whether the car's modifications are acceptable or not. As long as you have a forgiving mechanic or are in tight with the car club you are fine.

At our club (RSOC Vic) we require a roadie for each car on club plates but if it was a known car to the club and was sold within the club then we may not require a roadie to keep it in on club plates.

It is a great scheme and to be able to drive your car for 90 days a year for any purpose and it only costs $130 or so is sensational.

For the ones running SIV rego in QLD, does the "S" plate a dead give away for the use/power of an excuse for police to pull you over all the time?
You can run Personal plates instead but of course at more of a price for ones...

One car I had standard plates, now sold. My two current ones have personal plates. Never been pulled over. But that's because I drive on the road sensibly. On the track is another story.

I have always had personal plates on my Historic vehicles, partially to attract less attention, but then I have a BMW 2002 in yellow with a full cage that does shout to be noticed. Fortunately if you are not being an idiot, and you have aged less gracefully and have a very balding scalp like mine, you are less likely to get the wrong sort of attention.
