GRP4 Bilstein strut lengths

Postby wayovermyhead » Tue Aug 06, 2013 5:48 pm

Hey all,
Need new struts for which my preference is the grp4 style bilstein ones. My question relates to the choice between the long or short 300/70 inserts.

The car is purely a tarmac car with sprints, hillclimbs and one day a tarmac rally perhaps. Should short inserts be my default or are they only used on super low hard circuit cars only? Are long ones just fine for most things or are they actually longer to suit gravel cars?

And if using short inserts, do they require a shorter strut tube or are they suitable to use in the majority of strut casing you see advertised from the various pommy mobs?

Any general advice on the matter is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Llewellyn

These are Capri Struts with double-adjustable Konis. 40mm had to be cut out of the strut length to fit the shocks. Tarmac use only, 275lb springs, works quite well.

Is your fuel filler leaking or is a sticker?

Looks like you are having fun.

That's possibly the first photo to ever exist of an escort in motion with all 4 wheels on the ground poke.gif

Does that mean they are good struts, or bad???

Anyway, sorted it out. Got some short struts and inserts in the works.

Cheers,
Llew

They seem to work OK. Putting Bilsteins on the back made a big difference.
