Restore of a MK1 Escort Steering Wheel

Postby emil v » Mon Apr 09, 2012 1:00 am

Hi all thought I would post up my attempts to repair my old mk1 wheel.
I currently have a different wheel on the car but thought it best if I fix the original one up even if it is even just to pass rego.
So I checked you tube and thought why not give it a go.
I used the KBS product Numetal which I had a bit left from other jobs. Its a 2 part expoy that dries rock hard.

This was the state of the wheel prior to starting

So I figured hit it with the sand blaster to get some rust off it, cleanoff some grime and give the epoxy something to key into.

After blasting I got my dremel and cleaned out the grooves in an effort to help the adhesion.

Then I mixed up the last of the putty and started to fill the grooves as best I could.

Over the next coouple of days I will sand it back and prime the rim to get it to look right.
Then I might try and paint the rim to get it to look a bit different.

More updates to come
Happy easter all
Emil
It might be a small car but its carbon footprint is huge!

Spent the day sanding the rim and trying to get it into shape.
Bit rough but it will do the job, Will paint it and if it looks crap will just throw a cover on it.
