Well it’s that time of year again, had our first race meet for the season.
This was a night meeting with qualifying and race 1 in the afternoon, with race 2 and the combined race at night.
Had an interesting first lap out in quali with the steering. It seemed to “slip a spline” mid corner and that got my attention real quick, but would go back to centre are a few hundred metres. This as well as brake shudder put a damper on things…..
Couldn’t find anything wrong with it in the pits so went back out and put an average lap in.
Race 1 went alright, had a good start but the brake shudder was a pain.
Race 2 was similar, but in the last corner on lap 4 the steering “slipped” again and the steering wheel stayed at the 45 deg angle………. I had enough by now and gave it away.

Found to be the outer ball joint on the R/H TCA.
Put it on the trailer and watched the combined race.

Round 2 happened last weekend, but the bad start to the season continues.
This time it was the driver and not the car that broke……. Was feeling a bit average and only managed race 1, before packing up for the day.
The track was damp and had a few streams running across it, which made it interesting !!

Watched a few races from turn 10 and there were plenty of offs, should’ve had the camera on hand.

Round 3 was on the weekend, last one before the V8's.
Not much exciting happened, apart from the start on race 1.
The Commodore in front bogged down and I went to go around, out of nowhere Keith’s Subaru was right there……… Nearly had tears.

Missed second gear on the start of race 2…… enough said.

The “Dash for Cash” was interesting. The HQ’s started on the normal grid, under 2 litres started at turn 13, the Commodore Cup started at turn 10 and over 2 litre started at turn 7.
Ended up finishing 2nd.

Last weekend was the V8 Supercar round at Hidden Valley and we were one of the support categories. A combined class of Improved Production, Commodore Cup and HQ’s.
Had a good weekend overall, along with a few problems.
Managed to pick up 3rd place in Under 2 Litre, which was great.

In practice (Friday) we had major brake shudder and only managed a few laps.
Fitted a worn out set of front pads to get through qualifying. They worked, but had nothing left for race 1.
Found another set of worn pads for race 1 & 2 (Saturday), but the shudder came back and by the end of race 2 it was a real pain. Machined the front rotors and refaced the new pads on Saturday arvo and had it back together for race 3 & 4 (Sunday).

On the first lap of race 3 there was carnage in turn 1, which brought out the safety car.
I was very lucky to miss it, that was close.

In the last few laps of race 4, the water temp was rising and the oil pressure falling.
The light is set for 25psi, so had plenty of warning. When it got down to 10psi, I gave it away and coasted the last lap. Just ahead of another under 2 Litre car.

Found the block cracked from the rear welsh plug hole. Looks like engine out and rebuild time…….

Missed the start...... have a look in the mirror at the 6:30 mark and see if you can spot the full exhaust system left on the track at the 11:24 mark.......

No go Duratec! Lighter and more companies are doing bits for them now. Just my opinion.

Yep, already have a black top sitting in the shed. Duratec would be better, but the Zetec bolts up to the supra gearbox......
Before the Zetec goes in, I need to finish my other project first. Then its twin cam time

Nothing worse than watching the Commondoors disappear down the straight.

Not sure what the Falcon driver was thinking of either, made a mess of Maurice's Commodore. He wasn't a happy camper..........
