Strut Inserts - World Cup" type

I was down at Quadrant (Bilstein people in SE Melb) the other day getting some work done on the baby carrier and noticed some Escort suspension stuff.
He had a set of inserts which a customer had imported from OS which he referred to as "world cup" inserts. They had a larger thread on the top, about 10mm shorter and I think the top shaft (at the very top) was thicker. This was in direct comparison to a set of "standard" escort inserts he had sitting on the bench next to the "world cup" ones.
Are these "world cup" inserts the ones the poms /irish sell on line?eg http://www.grp4fabrications.com/product ... cts_id=314
Or are they different? He commented that they were pretty cheap on line and that they would probably work better because of the size etc.

Yes "World Cup" inserts are like the Gp4 ones.

this term has been used to describe all of this kind of insert, but was actually a term for a specific length and damping rate (can't remember which)

They are available in different lengths 9short or long)
and different rates

They need to go inside a different strut housing tube to the normal Escort ones, they have a threaded hole in the bottom to attach the insert, and have bushes and a seal inside the tube for the damper to slide up and down on (bit like a motorcycle fork stanchion)
The legs come in different lengths to suit (long or short)

The actual cast hub at the bottom is the same as other Capri/Escort RS types, so it is posible to buy just the tubes and weld them to your knuckles.

They're an 'upside-down' shock absorber where the tube is fixed to the car and the shaft/piston are fixed to the suspension. In the pic, the bumpstop on the shaft at the right is at the bottom of the strut tube. A reduction in unsprung weight is one benefit.

I tried the google thing with no success.
So the one Ral Des are adverting are not the right ones?

These are the struts from my car. They've got the upside down bilstein dampers in them. (260/60 long travel ones). As they're not yet bolted into the car I can get a few more pics of them if you want.
