To my calculations, the L16 rod take a 21mm pin and the Mahle VW pistons , which look nice, use a 22mm pin. Im told all vw stuff uses 22mm so do i have to bore out the L16 rod? Surely i lose any benefit of using a stronger rod by weakening it this way?
Or i can use Magna pistons which are as sexy as the vw ones..dilema..
I guess i could turn down the pin and bush one side, but thats still not ideal.
Any ideas?

Ok so its gonna be VW pistons and L16 rods.
Im informed that the Mahle VW big bore pistons are forged, looking at them i cant tell and nor can anyone else..heres a pic
Look good to me, see if they can handle the heat in my engine..
Heres one against a std pinto piston
The VW is on the right and looks more like a performance part, i just hope i can safely take 100thou off my block to make it all work, time will tell.

They are a cast piston, admitted one of the nicer cast pistons but if you are going to rev it to 8000rpm I'd be replacing them every season as they tend to crack around the gudgeon bosses. They also rattle the rings so you better keep your supply of blocks up as well
You will find that i nthe long run you will be better off biting the bullet and getting some decent forgings
