RS2000 struts

hi,

Just had a question reguarding the RS2000 struts, from what I have read they spose to have bolt on steering arms, yet the front struts I used in my mk1 are taken off a mk2 RS2000, and they are cast on steering arms.

or did Australian RS2000's recieve different struts? Also they say they are UNF tapers, considering the cars are built in England wouldn't they use BSF??

What are the advantages of bolt on steering arms? strength?

Australian struts did not have the bolt on arms, they were all of a one piece construction. And the taper is much larger than the one's in the English arms. The page you have above is from the rally prep book and covers English models only.

The removable arms are found here in Aus on Twin Cam struts and Capri 1600/3000 struts. There's no real advantage in the arm section (whether it's bolt on or not, save that in rallying if you bend one you can replace it) but those struts use larger diameter wheel bearings meaning they can carry higher loads.

We got all the good gear here in Oz.....

As Nev said you could run Capri struts. Mk2 RS2000 struts are the same as those in a standard 2lt Escort, but I assume you'd have to do a steering rack conversion to get tre's to fit and possibly convert to metric threaded brake lines.
