Redline Lubricants

After MANY cw&p failures using various mineral based LSD lubes (sprint and hillclimbs) I changed to Redline Lightweight Shockproof oil and have not had a problem since (no friction modifier used).

I have just got a new 5.1 CW&P and the recommendation is to use Heavyweight Shockproof - any comments on what would be best and why?

No new info for you here Michael but just to add my 5c worth....

I had some Redline in my diff and it was very noisy, clunking around corners, chattering at low speeds etc...I asked the guy who was straightening my housing and putting another CW&P in my centre at the time and he said he had had a few guys from Wanneroo say the same thing and that all the ever used was the Penrite 140 (think that is the right grade) oil and it was always quiet..I followed his advice and he was right..it has been quite since...not that that means much but in my mind quiet = less wear.

However..my car is not a race car and I have seen you drive so I understand that your conditions would be different...what ever works for you, works for you.

BTW..did you get your CWP in Oz or from the UK? I'm looking for a new 3.54CWP

get the oil capacity up to scratch, fit coooler ins n outs,



make sure baffles are sealed to housing, to prevent oil leaving center on corners etc.

I have these fitted to diff and gearbox, now.

That blue swaybar would certainly help with locked diff, to fight understeer.

Not sure sway bar on gearbox would help

Roger if the baffles are sealed up how does the oil get back to the center? No matter how good the baffles are you won't stop oil going past them. Wouldn't it be better to control the flow, that way letting the oil back down from the axle tubes as quickly as possible.

LW , HW etc is like visc rating, but Redline Rep told me to use it as a temperature rating, ie. if oil looks black/burnt go to next heavier oil.

Apparently these oils cling much better than ordinary diff oils therefore baffles in diff are far less important as it does not surge from one side to the other when corner and leave the CW without lube.

Atlas diffs thrive on LS140. Never a problem in 23 years so I can't be too far wrong. And yes if you want to shut up the diff add some friction modifier altho this defeats the purpose because we are trying to minimise slip. I prefer the clunking 'cos when you get into it they work better and I don't mind driving sideways.
As for Quaife CR boxes use synthetic 75/90 and nothing else. Moreys will cause the baulk rings to stick and cause crunching on quick gear changes.
If you have any problems getting any oil see me!!
