FS: 1980 Escort Mk II 2 DOOR - NSW

Postby leprkorn » Sun Dec 29, 2013 12:39 pm

Looking to sell my Escort. I've had it for a few years now with the plan to turn it into a rally car/hillclimb car, but due to a lack of time and loss of interest I'm prepared to offer it for sale.

1980 MkII Escort 2 Door
Originally a 1600, 4 speed
Car is currently a rolling shell and stripped down on the interior (some parts like the seats are still around, but door cards, back seat and interior quarters are missing). Also front seat rails have rusted solid.

2x 2L Pinto engines (one was running when removed, the other condition unknown)
3x 4 speed gearboxes
1x Weber 32/36 standard carburettor
4x complete sets of 4 13" alloys (see photos)
Various panes of spare glass with at least one complete replacement set for whole 2 door car
Set of extractors to suit 2L Pinto engine
Full exhaust system off Escort rally car (used condition)
Spare dash with tacho

I also have and planned to fit:
1x 5 speed standard celica box (not fitted)
1x 2wd hilux open centre diff, 4.375:1 ratio (not fitted)

The only major rust is in the rear left hand back quarter. I have the repair panel for the outer skin (which will included with the sale of the car), but it has eaten out the wheel well, so someone would need to source or manufacture one, surely not a difficult task.

I will also throw in all information/paper work I have collected to build car up, which includes a CD manual for Escort rally car preparation and other info sourced from the internet.

Also any other parts that I have forgotten to mention in this ad that are for the Escort will be included as well.

All parts are there to create a running vehicle minus a radiator.

Car is located at Gloucester NSW. Viewing can arranged, but as I now live in Sydney, a time would need to be organised.

Photos can be viewed here: http://s285.photobucket.com/user/leprko ... For%20Sale

Serious offers around $3000 will be considered.

I can be contacted at brett_taylor@hotmail.com with any questions.

Cheers,
Brett

I would have thought the money is about right if its a good shell and complete car.
The problem I see its a car needing a significant restoration at best at worst a full ground up rebuild. As stated it has some rust, It will therefore have more.
Thus its a restorers/competitors proposition and as escorts are not that popular it will take a while for it to sell.
I think many of the parts you have collected are probably not worth that much to the escort restorer. Non standard escort parts but standard other car parts are only usefull to thiose with the same plan. they need modification to fit or may just be surplus to needs if its a reshell of a damaged shell etc.
the rest of the escort stuff, unseen as there are no pictures, therefore could be regarded as junk until proven otherwise by a perspective buyer. I dont see them as a deal sweetener at this stage. Assume all will need a rebuild.
As its incomplete you may not be attractingt he new to escorts restrorer as they would prefer a complete car to allow them to renovate all parts rather than guess at whats missing and go hunting for it.

If I was in the market for one like what you have described Id probably be thinking circa 2K. But Im a tight arse!

Pros: 2 door
Cons: everything else

Rust looks nasty, especially around the door hinge, if the rear well is that far gone, then further up would have had to be repaired too. Location-wise it's pretty remote, I'd offer $500 if it were within 2 hrs drive. Sell the gearbox and hilux diff separately.

Thanks for the honest appraisals lads. The dark mark near the hinge is actually rust inhibitor because it had surface rust, not full blown cancer. Looks pretty ordinary in the pics though. Would I be better off moving it down to sydney where I now live?

yes move it so aprospective seller can come see.
and better photos too, especially if you are honest seller with nothing to hide. last thing anyone wants is to take the time to visit a poorly described car and find its worse than thought.
hard core restoration guys will spend good cash on the best shell available.
