Pinto valve angles

Postby PaulMK1 » Wed Nov 28, 2012 10:20 am

Can anyone help me with the angle of the valves to the pistons?

I'm still getting light contact onto the face of my pistons so want to get some reliefs machined into the piston faces. I’m assuming I’m getting valve float at high revs since the static clearances were around the 80 tho. I have not-so-nice marks on all pistons showing where the valve reliefs are required.

Next on the shopping list is some heavier and longer valve springs as I've already shimmed this set up 60 tho.

Danny, There is plenty of meat still left on the crown, and I used your "steel ruler" method to set the CAM (whcih also aligned very closely to the reccommend CAM duration at full lift)

Cam is the HT1E. The pistons are woosner and came with a 7mm crown or which I have already taken 80+ tho off to get the desire compression. Unfortunately at home I don't have thick enough callipers to measure accurately but even with a rule looking at the skirts I still have 5mm (ish).

Doing measurements last night and high school trigonometry The Exhaust valve face appears to be at a 9 degree angle to the piston and intake at a 8 degree angle.

How much piston to valve clearance have you got as I would touch a flat top piston as .200" (5mm) is usually the minimum for a crown in these situations
