How does one tell the difference between an Atlas or Baby Atlas diff and a std rear loading Escort/Cortina diff?

Get hold of a copy of Autumn 2006 ClassicFord - issue 112. It has a good tech article on this very subject. (for some reason they called the Oct 06 edition Autumn)
Narrow (baby) Atlas is identical to the Wide Atlas in but is 1 inch narrower. A Cortina diff of course has lugs cast on the diff head for the diagonal arms. According to the article MK3 Cortinas were basically an Atlas but later Cortina's used a Koln diff which looks similar only to an Atlas. Cortina's could of course be different in Aust however and I would suspect Falcon powered ones were very different!

Searched local news agent for Classic Ford and they didnhave that copy. Ended up getting Retro Ford just for a read. But back to topic, I seems to just be a early std Mk1 diff. I just wanted to be sure before I got rid of it.

Diff width info Ive collected...................
Escort axle 48 Inches (baby)
Capri MK1 axle 50 inches (narrow)
Capri mk2/3 axle 52 inches (Wide)
The atlas axles come in different widths:
A baby atlas is 48" which is the same width as a english one and is obviously designed to fit under std arches.
A Mk1 capri atlas aka a narrow atlas is 2" wider @ 50" wide.
A 2.8i atlas aka a wide atlas is 4" wider @ 52" wide.
and I believe people like Gartrac have made "extra wide" versions @ 54" wide
