R31 Rear Brake Setup

Hey, I've just acquired a R31 rear brake setup for the RS and I've been looking how I'll route the handbrake and piping. I've searched everywhere but can't find pictures of someone with a complete finished setup. Are there any others? Paul Dunstan? Matt?

From an engineering and safety point of view I can see all the standard pipework sits on the back of the English axle. The handbrake does as well. When using Paul Dunstan's brackets the handbrake cable appears to require a routing and attachment to the calliper from under the diff housing. I'm thinking the only way without kinking the handbrake cable is to then sit it above the leaf springs when running forward to the centre of the car. This may allow it to be squished between the springs and chassis rail. Would this be legal? Matt75 has a nice little project going on CF website. Here's a pick of his that shows this. Here are a couple of pics that I have borrowed from around the place that should give you some ideas on what other have done.

I don't see how the cables could interfere with the leaf springs though.

It's more direct and less twist and turns. I'm not sure how close it'll get to the exhaust though. This way you can use most of the R31 brackets.

What are you doing for the brake line routing to/from the axle and car under body? To complicate, after moving the fuel tank, I'm going to run the exhaust down the one side, which is also where the brake line runs. I'm thinking the exhaust may get in the way of this routing to/from the axle and car under body.

Here's whats happening at the moment with the exhaust crossing over at present. As you can see the flex line may get in the way of the exhaust. Although maybe I could shield it??

You could always route the exhaust under the diff as per DannyM's car.

While I'm asking. What pads are people using on the rear with R31 callipers? My callipers came with some Bendix ones. I'm running DS3000 on the front. Ferodo don't seem to make a DS3000 pad to suit the R31 calliper.

I spoke to Greg @ GSL Rallysport and he recommended the QFM A1RM's for the rear brakes. He said they are a Ferodo DS2500 equivalent and their co ef of friction isn't that high that it's unsuitable for the rear of the car.

Probably the biggest mistake people make is thinking that because the rear of the car does less braking that you can get away with a lesser pad. Yes it's true that the rear of the car does less of the overall braking, but it's also got substantially smaller hardware in which to do with, so the actual 'pads' themselves will generally work nearly as hard.
