Phillip Island Historics
Philip Island Historics is on 9th, 10th and 11th of March. I am running the twinc in Nc. 60 entries for under 3 litre historic touring. 570 odd entries all up. Always a great meeting with heaps of great cars. Cheers Peter
Hi Lachlan, I havent seen an entry list but read this http://www.ozracingwrap.com/general/345 ... assic.html. I think they will run one race only with 60 starters. Should be fun. Come and say hi over the weekend sometime. Cheers Peter
I went down on the sunday, and took plenty of pics of i hope every escort that was there, so who knows i may have snapped a few pics of both you cars guys, but would have no idea what they look like.
was a brilliant day. Hopefully if i guess my butt into gear i might have my 1300 there next year :)
I dragged the family down early on Saturday to catch a couple of friends from Tweed run in Formula Fords. Unfortunately the weekend didn't end well for Fred in his Crossle (car 22) after getting caught up in the incident at turn one on Sunday. He's O.K., albeit a little sore, but the car is a bit of a mess.
For his first time out, Sean had a good weekend in his Elfin (car 14).
I believe Lachlan (fpv_escort1) had a few issues, but it was good to see the car out on the track Saturday morning.
Peter V S looked to have a pretty good weekend results-wise hovering around the top ten all weekend. The car looked great too.
Just a few piccies (from the 700+ I took!) of the above guys.
Good shots Simon. There were a few big hits over the weekend but thankfully everyone was ok. The Porsche that went end for end coming onto the straight was destroyed and a few Mustangs need extensive body work. I had a pretty good weekend overall. Car went well and I drove it on to the trailer Sunday night which is always a bonus. Broke another headlight and had the back window pop out and shatter all over the track in race two. I had an average qualifying as I couldn't get a clean lap in. Qualified 19th out of 50. Finished 9th in race 1, 12th in race 2, 11th in race 3 and 10th in race 4. Got 2 seconds and 2 firsts in my class which was more than I hoped for. Best time was a 1.57 which I was pretty happy with. The car ran great all weekend but the Toyos were going off by lap 4 and the car got pretty skatey. We kept dropping tyre pressures which helped a bit. I was probably over driving it trying to keep up with the bloody rotaries and the Capris which were a lot quicker in a straight line. I was lucky enough to borrow a set of AO50 Yokies for the last race as Errol had an engine problem with his RS. Thanks Errol for your generosity. Great tyre. More grip off the line, great first lap grip and they didn't go off. Unfortunately I didn't get a clean lap in and was getting baulked by a Mazda and a Porsche so didn't get a good time on them but I am sure they would have been considerably faster than the Toyos. Good to meet up with Lachlan who put in some great times in a 1300 that's just hit the track. cheers Peter
Was a great meeting! Thoroughly enjoyed it, was great to be able to put faces to names and also be part of such a huge meeting. We had a few dramas with the 1300 but we hope to be back bigger and better next year, lots of testing ahead and maybe a littel development.
Was a shame to see so many BIG crashes at a historic meeting. It almost seems like it's turning into Goodwood, win at all costs sort of racing. Hopefully the drivers and cars will be able to rebuild and come out again and race.
Dad has heaps of pics from the weekend, and my brother got osme great film (even of Peter's rear window falling out!
Remember to all come down to baskerville in october for the Historic Meeting

That explains why the State Champs at Morgan Park were so short on numbers - several regular Group N cars in these pics.
We had HQ's & Gemini's (yes they still run these categories). Only in Warwick can you bust a front strut on a Gemini and go to a local wreckers and get another one for $55. making you a starter in the next race.
There are people who make things happen, people who watch what happened and those who have no idea what happened - which one are you?
Yes was getting a little frustrated to say the least! Car was going really well until the miss started, but something had to happen being the frist race meeting. We plan to run the car in around 4 weeks at Baskerville (down here in Tassie). Are you planning to run your 1300 in group n? Need more Escorts out there.
EVERYONE: Bring your cars down to Historic Baskerville in October :)
Was a great weekend of racing old fords. I had never run in a race at PI so was a big learning curve. Practice and quallifying was as busy as you are ever likely to see it, with us guys in the Mk1 Cortinas pulling out onto the straight to start, with the Capris and RX2's blasting past finishing their first lap. I spent the whole weekend trading places with Johnnie Luxmeore in his Mk1 GT, with him finishing in front an 2 occasions and me on the other 2. Just couldnt catch the 1300 Esky. It was an enjoyable weekend off the track as Peter Van and I shared a house along with a bunch af mates incuding John S, who runs the dark blue BDA, punts it pretty well for a bloke in his 70's. Historic racing isnt real cheap (well no motorsport is), but it is a whole lot of fun. great photos guys. Im heading over to Mallala at Easter for a run, so drop by and say hello
