Here's the "new" diff with Kaaz center. I donated my spare 4.8 center and they rebuilt with new bearings and my LSD next day.


Here's Pinto #2 - I did the dummy build tonight to check valve clearences and all appears to be good:


It's back off to the shop now to get the block faced and the pistons tops reduced as they protrude a tad too far at the moment. Whats the ideal piston to head clearance? (PEC rods, ARP bolts, Woosner pistons)

Now needs new exhaust and wheel alignment.

Well spotted, Steve.

That was my attempt at "tiger stripes" about 12 years ago. Ended up looking more like blue slugs and funny moustaches.

Was all in all a very stressful event - brakes have not been great since the last sprint, finally got them semi sorted on Tuesday night. Then Wednesday night I discovered the rear master cylinder had shat itself all over the drivers floor. So new cylinder installed this morning, got my Mum to help re-bleed the brakes and still ended up with a very spongy pedal yet again.

First two runs had way to much rear bias, got it right for the 3rd run only to have the starter motor fail after the finish, so yet another DNF since we didn't start the 4th run.

but are they generic type master cylenders ??
and std ford type starter motor ?
remedy
use girlock or ap or brembo master cyls & ive even seen problems with these
and try a hi tourque starter motor from castlemaine auto electrics

Anyone know of a decent twin pot caliper to suit a 10mm disc (not slider/floating)?

value for money , try alcon stuff or AP is as good as brembo if yu wanna pay for the best

Two new MCs and the brake seem to be sorted.

So onto the new engine:

Unfortunately I damaged the oil rings on #3 so will need to wait for a new set, and my ARP head bolt set turned out to be a main stud set.
I'll double check valve clearances, etc and hopefully the right bits will be here within the next week or so.

It's been a busy few weeks escort wise. Two weekends ago I sat in the silly seat next to Blair Pugh in his impressive PRC Mk2 RS2000


After setting some very fast stage times even beating Neil Bates factory RA40, our heat one came to a premature end with a broken rear leaf spring


After a mad dash back to Perth we did fit another set and managed to complete heat 2 without too many other dramas but were obviously out of the points overall.

Fortunately the last few bits for my new engine arrived on Thursday just prior to the extra long weekend. Fahley and I spent most of Saturday assembling, checking and double checking everything and by 4pm had in all finally buttoned up:


Then it was out with the old


and in with the new


As a result of the attention to detail it started on the key and so far has been run at 2000rpm+ for 15min to run the new cam in and heat cycled twice:


So i'm pretty happy!

Now I need to balance the Webers sort out the idle, recheck the tappets, re-torque the head, etc...

Just out of interest, is that broken spring a Rally Design single leaf 146lb-er?

(Bloody good work getting anywhere near Bates, let alone beating him!)

So as per my thread in the pinto section I've had a few drama's getting the new engine to run.

Here's the 2nd time the head came off...

(after 30min of running with misfire under load)

Anyhow all is now good and next weekend i'll get some K's on the engine prior to a good dyno session.

Biggest job was to get the boot area sealed. Whilst I had installed a firewall where the rear seat use to be my wheel arches were exposed:




and after a quick coat of paint:





I also fitted mudflaps and installed my trip meter (photo's to follow)
