That's an awesome MkI too there. I'm a bit hamstrung here between getting engine dyno figures(at great expense) and therefore knowing what stage to build the gearbox to, or, taking a punt on an expected 210-220HP and go the straight cut rocket box. I guess with the throttle bodies your getting up to the 250-260HP range so the dogbox would be the go for you

straight cut is no stronger than helical in itself is it? I remember an old thread where people actaully said SC is weaker and that trucks use semi-helical...something along those lines

thanks All, it's not the gears that let go it's the bushes as it doen't have the needle roller bearings and the oil can not get into the bushes so they bind up and lock onto the shaft

OK, new Tran-X 5 Speed Dog Box in now, looking at coming down for the Open Street Sprints at QR on the 28th but the weather is not looking good for this weekend, I hope it changes as I need to have a drive
I did have a drive at our local drag track just to make sure all works fine and will need some practise to get used to it, very noisy too
