Hilux Lsd

Postby Mik Kay » Sun May 29, 2011 12:25 am

Mates got a tight hilux Lsd with 4.8 gears that he would prefer to swap for a centre that takes the lower ratios. Wants to run 3.5 or 3.7

I must be missing something? I've been running a 3.5 P&C in my 4.3 original center for years. I do remember reading something about needing different centers for different ratios but I've got everything from 5.3 to 3.5 and all can run the same center.

Is it the LSD center that fouls?

I was always under the impression that 4.5 and down fitted in the same housing and 4.7 and up were the same. Might be a year model thing. eg early and late hilux. As for LSD issue i have no idea
I think there is a write up on this site that explains this but couldn't find it.

Bearing sizes are different between early and late model. Hmm So is it possible the 4.8 and above (numerically speaking) are different center housing. What I had read was the differential case had a different offset depending on ratio.

OK so I had a look and here is the difference. On the left is a 4.8 middle is 3.5 and right is 4.3. Second pic shows a later center on the left that is a different housing again.

Anyone local interested in a nice and tight, low Km, Hilux LSD axle. 4.8 ratio and comes complete. All brakes, cables and clips.

Mate ended up going 9 inch Isuzu
