First car was a red '68 Escort 2 door with 1600GT motor on 40's and close ratio box, 6 dial dash and rostyle wheels. You haven't lived until you drive a compression strut Escort

Went through 9 diffs, 1 gearbox, 1 engine and a gazillion rear tyres before I sold it.

Now 25 years later I intend to build the same car but 'better' (I have money now)

thought I might add my bit, worked for a few Ford dealers between 66 and 72 and bought a nice new GT1600 in 73 for the almighty price of $3300. soon fitted hotwires and dropped it a bit and had a ball blowing many a V8 to the weeds. Unfortunatly I sold it a few years later and now am building up another MK1 twin cam Escort (it is getting a Mazda MX5/Laser B6 and 5 speed). Won't be the same, but, should go well, with more power and a 5 speed will do me for a sunny Sunday cruiser.

I bought a 1600GT with a 2l pinto when I was an apprentice and spent four years rebuilding it into a hillclimb/super spint car. It won "Best Presented Car" in the NSW Speed Series 1991 but sadly I destroyed it at Amaroo Park soon after.

Have also had a Mk1 GT Cortina, 2dr 1600cc Mk2 Escort and currently own a 1600GT Capri and Mk2 Escort rally car.
