i think i just need to find the time and money to thrash it around Mallala to see what breaks. I cannot afford to do any other tarmac rally events :(
I have a Kaaz LSD in a Hilux diff and it bangs and carries on terribly. Even on small radius corners at low speed it bangs like somebody has hit the back end of the car with a sledge hammer. Is that normal? To me it seems to have got alot worse than it used to be. I still have great traction but it is such a pig at crawling speed to the point that it forces the car to stall. Any ideas? The backlash on the tailshaft seems a little more excessive than it should be although I have not measured it yet.
some kaaz oil that came with it. 80w/90 from memory
Just received some infor from Kaaz USA;
Under competition use, the diff oil temperature can go as high as 400F degrees. Most racing gear oil will break down at this temperature. If you haven't changed the oil since the first event, please change the oil and check the noise level and the function of the lsd. Once the oil reaches this kind of temperature, the viscosity level goes down quite a lot and the oil will not cushion the parts properly causing premature wear in some cases. Also the use of synthetic type oil will normally double the chatter noise level. Mineral based oil will provide more smooth movement during lock and unlock process and produce less noise. Normally more rubber (wider tire) = less chatter.
The oil Kaaz supplier with the centre was nowhere near enough for the Hilux housing. When I spoke with supplier about extra oil they also stressed not to go synthetic, which was going to be my preference. I can't remember what brand I ended up with but it has been changed at the start of each season.
My Escort has now done a grand total of 786Km in the past 3 years

Sorry to hear it didn't work out as we would all hope mate. Still, at least you got a good drive out of it and it didn't all die in the arse on day one. You'll find the cash for another next year or beyond, just don't leave the prep to the last minute.
The footage looked good too, well done on the effort.
Glenn, Paul's might be quiet because he hasn't got any grunt! LOL I've got one organised for the yellow car for Mt Cotton so we'll see if it makes any noise, I probably wouldn't hear it if it did anyway
I have ordered a new Holley fuel regulator as my previous one couldnt regulate down low enough. The new one is designed for 1-4psi so is ideal. I also am looking for a new fuel pressure gauge to sit with the regulator. Does anybody know if you can get a gauge that reads only in the Weber sort of pressure range? Most seem to be 0-15psi and I doubt if the readings as low as 2-3psi would be accurate. What do you use?
Don't fit a gauge in permanently as the vibrations kill them and they're never that accurate. Get a decent hand held gauge and just connect it up once in a while
