RS Steering Arms, Twin Cam ARB

Need one or preferably 2 pairs of RS bolt on steering arms (trying to avoid buying some from Rally Design!)

Also, if anybody has a decent twin cam roll bar I need one of those also. Had lined up to purchase a new K-Mac bar but need to save some coin

The standard Mk1 47mm struts have bolt on steering arms - are they the same?

No the hole spacing is different.

I am hesitant to buy Rally Design anything although this prejudice is based on forum posts and not direct personal experience

Prices per pair:

GRP4 $250 + freight
Gartrac $145 + freight (standard inc bolts)
Gartrac $220 + freight (heavy duty inc bolts)
Rally Design $110 + freight
Burtons $102 + freight (est online as $47!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

It becomes a bit of a sport slagging off Rally Design and their Chinese copies (although we all are getting excited over Chinese Mk1 wings!!) but I dont like to join in as I do not have hard evidence.

Which way do I go???? 2 sets (one as a spare for events) gets pricey if I go for the supposed "strong" ones. Has anybody had a Rally Design/Burtons item break??
Are steering arms available from Ford still??

I recall Roger posting about some arms that he modified by welding steel along the rear. I am hesitant to do this due to my average welding and concerns as to what this might do to the chemical strength of the metal.

Just to confirm, I have a Gartrac quick rack, WCXM and RS axle stubs. Not sure if all that changes the type of arms I need.

IMO Rally Design stuff is made to a price and not quality. Two examples: I have a Rally Design panhard rod that I never got around to using. When I cut it for something else I found it was ERW not CDS. A friend has a Westfield that he put a Rally Design front suspension kit on. Much later he was contacted by RD to say that they had had failures where the WELD THAT JOINS THE SECTION ON THE ARM BOLTS TO THE UPRIGHT . They then sent him a revised part that was fully forged.

Ta group5. Its good to hear real world experiences. The RD items do say they are drop forged but as I have no idea about metalurgy I do not know if that itself makes them strong.

Finding original Ford items over here might be tough for me but even then, are they suitable for competition use?????

I've used the original arms on my competition car for the last 10 years with no problems.

RS one's, do you mean Capri? Do you have a bolt hole, centre to centre measurement as I might be able to help?

Darren, the bolt hole centres are 70mm (strange as I was expecting it to be imperial!).

2c worth - I've also rallied for 10 years with original Ford arms and never had any problems, despite 3 rollovers and numerous excursions into the bush.

Just spend your money on one set of good quality ones.
