It’s time for my trusty old 1977 Ghia to find a new home. I’m tired of paying rego and seeing it sit in the shed so I’m hoping someone can give it a good home and put it to use.
Basically the car is a 1977 Ghia 2L with factory air. It was originally an auto but I’ve since changed that to a manual. I bought the car towards the end of 2004 from the original owner down the Gold Coast. He had worked for Ford in Melbourne and bought the car as a demo (I have the log books and the first owner is Ford). According to the old guy it was specially ordered for the 1978 Sydney Motor show as it has a factory cloth hoodlining and was originally a two tone blue with no vinyl roof. It had 66000km on it when I bought it – some photos here:

The paint was getting a bit dodgy so as you do I thought I’d rebuild it so that started in early 2007 and I don’t think I really finished it until 2010. What’s in it now is:
Rebuilt 2L with new pistons, rings, bearings, reco head with a light skim and a bit of porting, Mellings HV oil pump, billet cam (too big) with new rockers & vernier
Extractors with 2” exhaust
Light flywheel with Group 1 clutch
Single piece tailshaft
Lowered front struts with I think Monroe shocks
24mm front sway bar
4 leaf rear springs with Pedders shocks & lowering blocks
Interior changed from beige to black
Pioneer CD/MP3 player with 5” front door speakers, 6x9” in the rear parcel tray and two 10” subwoofers mounted behind the back seat
Recaro drivers seat
RS dash
Momo steering wheel
Registered until Oct 2014
It’s done 6500km since 2010
This body is as close to perfect as you’ll get. There is NO rust – all it had to start with was a 20c size around the boot lid and the heater bubble had surface rust on the inside, all of which has been properly repaired.
The bad:
Need tyres
Rear brakes squeal
LH front guard is creased low down
Cam is too big or it needs more fuel (small 4 barrel Holley would be interesting)
a/c doesn’t turn on and needs re-gassing
Needs the vinyl roof done or just paint the roof that’s there again ( I have some paint)
It currently has my spare race rocket box in it which has to come out but I have a reco standard 4sp box to go back in. Otherwise car is in exceptional condition. I still have the original Ghia wheels and a few odds and ends for it (bootlock and badges etc) which I never got around to putting on. I have a lot more photos than these if anyone is interested.
The price is $4500 as is and to be honest I’m not interested in negotiating as I think that’s a very fair price for a Ghia of this age and condition even with the few little issues it has. If you’re interested give me a call on 0405 178 199.
