Historic Qld, July 30-31, Morgan Park

Hi all, HRCC are once again running their winter meeting at Morgan Park, racing and regularity. Entries close 1st July and will be run on the new [K] long circuit , 3.0kM which has also had a part resurface recently.



Hopefully we'll be going, who else is up for it?

Do the Sup regs allow you to run with ice chains to get grip?

I'll have to look into that, but the cold shouldn't be a problem, remember, I do know how to start a fire....

There'll be a good rollup on Group C/A guys including the RS. Should be a good weekend on the long track.

I've entered the regularity. Ran track K last year in the Australian Super Sprint Championship and it puts a smile on your face every lap, nothing like turning in to a sweeper at 160 kph plus and going through the chicane up the hill in 4th gear it's a hoot.

Temperature in Warwick got to muinus 5 last night. anyone competing might want to tune their motor to sub artic conditions and pack their thermals.

I'll be sitting on a flag point - but I'm not looking for any work over the weekend.

The Historic Meet at Morgan Park Raceway was a great event. Manged to get 2nd in one Regularity event and even managed to get 8 laps in an 6 laps event passing that many cars that I got the to 2 extra laps. Scotts Escort was blowing a bit of smoke at the start of our 3rd event but don't know why. Nevs Escort was a no show but overall such a good weekend I'll have to start doing this yearly from now on.

Yep, another great event. It seems to blow a bit of smoke when it's cold, not much by the time I park it. Doesn't effect the way it goes as I managed to lower my time from 1:38.2 in May to a best of 1:36.5 on Sunday. I was helping an Nb Cortina driver replace a clutch on Sunday morning so I didn't get to the timekeepers early enough to lower my nominated time. No sheep stations involved so I didn't really worry too much about that one..

Good to catch up with a few over the weekend and thanks to those who helped with the event in any way. I've got a couple of pics I'll try to get up soon.

I thought that smoke was from my car till I turned off the engine and could hear yours running. I didn't get near my fastest time but old tyres will do that, a 1.28.85 on the 8th lap was the best I could manage a bit away from 1.27.4 that I did last year.

Darrin - that car of your was a bullet. Can't believe it was only a 2 litre.

I was on Turn 10 (most northern flag point on the track). I hope I hung the blue flag out enough so other drivers gave you guys clear passage.

I won a demonstration (hot) lap in the Ferrari 308 at lunch time Sunday (someone scored a ride in the Uniparts Jag). The Ferrari driver reckons he does 1.33-34 lap times. It was like you were lying on a garage creeper doing 100 mph. Its different to see the track from the drivers perspective at speed.

Anyone get pics of the RX7 that did a 'MaxRS' or was it hurried away?

Went out for a look sunday, i must say i'm impressed by your escort darrin you had unbelievable pace, you don't happen to have a supercherger in there do you as there was a noticable whine?

The program didn't mention that my car is supercharged, it does surprise a few people.All the flag points did a great job and so did the other drivers I had no troubles with anyone so it was a great event. Doing 170kph coming down into the sweeper and then bouncing the car off the curbs in 4th gear and on 2 wheels coming up the hill is a lot of fun. I'll be back next year for it and I'll make sure the tires aren't old so that hopefully I'll be a little quicker. My brother Jon was talking to Chris Bowden and he thought it might be close to a write off but a car that valuable I'm sure they will fix it.

I didn't get any pics of the RX7, they had it covered up pretty quick. Nowhere near as bad as the Pinepac Mustang though, i'd say it'll be fixed eventually.

The blue Mk1 behind me at the start had a 1800 turbo Nissan motor in it so I was glad to stay in front of that. The Alfa and I were evenly paced but we both got held up pretty bad by the Red Porsche and the Fiat 127 out of Siberia and onto the next left hander. The Blue datsun was pretty quick too, didn't take too long for him to disappear into the distance once he learnt the track a bit better.

I'll have to wait until I build up my own Mk1 before I can go much faster as the Rallypack is as highly modified as dad wants to go with it. It's still running the same block, head, crank and rods that it came down the production line with so i don't think it goes too bad for what it is. If I drive a bit better I might be able to find another second or so if I look hard enough...

Scott your car does very well and that Datsun 1600 was quick and still has the l20b engine on webers. I've done a lot of laps around Morgan Pk over the last 11 years and have been developing the car for it so I might have a little advantage there.
