Thanks for the advice Darren, I guess with it being left right all the way to the top makes it a tad easier to remember. Just need to remember the tighter ones and put them in sequence. I Intend to take it pretty steady and use it as a test and tune and hopefully make it back in Nov. Not sure how my gearing and tyre choice will go, but will find out after a couple of runs. I just hope the weathers fine as I dont have proper wets. I think I counted 16 escorts so a good turnout, and heaps of fast cars in the awd class. Thanks for the photo Gary I had'nt seen that one before, must contact Nigel as he has some great photos. Will catch up with you guys on the weekend. Just wondering can the cars stay in the pits Sat night or do you have to take them home? Garry.
Some fast there. I'm taking 2 cameras up so there should be heaps of pics/videos. Every time I have been they let you keep your cars there and provide security. Cheers Glenn
Hey Garry From memory overnight security is provided on saturday night as several cars are left including Danny's car, which no one would want to steal anyway. Darren
Thanks David, Great weekend, track was very slippy this morning but dried up well by this arvo. Appreciate the work you do as a flag marshal, people sometimes forget the people that do all this behind the scenes work that ensure these events happen. Well done.
I don't know what the times were - but No 12 (Subaru WRX) came wide into T10 and he was at full throttle by mid corner and was just nailing it in the straight line hugging the inside on the way out. He held the lap record for the class so he has some credability. Other highlight of that flag point was Dave Gaines in the 1200 Datsun (running 2 Lt) who saved his best to last and had the front inside wheel in the air on the way in and held it that was all the way through the corner (rear end hanging out as well). He had plenty of opposite lock and a front wheel in the air for most of the day, but his last pass was poetry.
Peter Bagley was saving his rubber to in no 51 with the front wheel in the air on the exit on many occassions.
This flag marshalling is a part time thing for me to get some 'my' time - there are some tragics (for want of a better word) who are doing this 40 weekends a year and think nothing to go to Bathurst for the 12 hour or other interstate meetings (usually V8 related). We don't have to pay admission to the track & usually get feed and usually get to sit very close to the action (too close sometimes) - downside is we are first out there and last in so the day/weekend can be a long one.
There are people who make things happen, people who watch what happened and those who have no idea what happened - which one are you?
Great event with very few accidents. Well done to Danny, Garry, Rob and the Cowie brothers for some fast times at a July (cold track) and a big thanks to David W. for being a flag marshall all weekend, as Rob said this event wouldn't happen without the volunteers.
From memory Danny set a new 'July' class record beating his old white Mk2 time (and won his class), Garry won his class (first time on the hill) in a close battle against his old Mk2 escort sports sedan and Rob almost beat his old personal best time whilst taking third to the experienced Cowie's brothers Mk2 escort sports sedan in there class.
I was a good 3 sec. of my personal best so am not a happy camper and a little confused at whether the driver or car weren't up to scratch. Keen to get back into it again in November to hopefully make amends.
And thanks to Gary and grt for taking photos and video.
