Dad and i went out to Gatton today to watch the sprints. Great day with the weather staying nice and cool. There were alot of quick cars out there some of which in Nev Scott in his new Wrx whole managed first outright after only driving it for the first time on Saturday morning, Ray Vandersee in the Skelta, Gary Ford in the V8 Escort, Des Pearce in the Porsche GT2 and Craig Weston in the R32 GTR. There were many other quick evos and wrxs as the short track seems to suit the turbo awds. We set up down on turn 3 which looked like to place to be as on the first run John Gilbert in the Commodore hit the wall on the exit of the chicane, he was the first of many. The down hill section of the track before the chicane is the fastest part of the track and the off camber corner plus the changing track surface made it quite tricky. The secord car to meet the concrete was Rob Bellinger in the 8.1L V8 Holden Panelvan. It was quite a big impact and the big van almost went over the top of the barries. The biggest accident of the day went to Chris Johns in the Suzuki Cappuccino. Watching the car in the previous runs, he was one of the quickest cars through the chicane. My guess he woud of be down 100pkh+. On his third run the back stepped out and he was unable to recover in time before having a sizable impact with the barrier. Thankfully he and the other drivers all walked away. I got video of both the van and suzuki and much more which will go on youtube later on. These pictures were taking by my Dad and there are alot more so if you were racing let me know your car no. and I shall post more up.
