Hi Guys I am currently rebuilding a MK 1 escort. It started life as a basic 1100 2 door and when i have finished with her it will be a bubble arched racer powered by a 1700 711m through a 5 speed type 9 to a 2 linked LSD english axled, Finished in white with subaru blue RS striping. at the moment it is a reasonably rusty shell on a rotisserie You can follow the progress on the old girl at....................

Youre right she is a rust bucket. she has been a race car for most of her life and the last owner was "rural" so his mistresses may well have been living in her. I wont be too worried about bending her too much so she will be a multi purpose car but at the same time i am working to get her road legal so that means the majority of the rust needs to go and i can hide the rest of it. but i do want it too look nice and tidy as well the 5 foot rule applies here good as long as you are not wanting concorse quality and absolutely perfect

A donor looks a good idea, I belive the rear of a 4 door 1/4 is the same and they are cheaper

Well I had a longer look at the rear 1/4 last night and while it is bad it is not the end of the world. I am still considering a donor but this area might tidy up OK. Once all the bog was out and I gave it a good clean most of the lower section looks ok and with just a skim of bog it should be ok. The rear corner will require a bit more work but I may just get away with it.

I would put up more photos but it takes time away from the rebuild
One of the problems is not just the tail light area the swage line in the rear 1/4 is nonexistant it looks like it has had a big shunt in that area and once cleaned up I think it may look a bit better. Unfortunately no work achieved over this weekend and because of Concors'e this weekend this will be a bust as well so no update this week

OK JP I promise I will take more photos asap.I hopefully take delivery of my driver tomorrow so I maybe able to get photos up on the blog and I will take heaps this weekend of the escort car clubs display at the car show which should have about 10 escorts on show so they may be up on sunday night OK.
