So having walked under a ladder, smashed a mirror, opened an umbrella indoors and done anything else that promotes bad luck here is a bit of an update.....
.....When I bought the car it came with an engine that was apparently built pretty well for rallying but probably could do with a rebuild so my plan was to leave it as is and go do a few events before getting something more powerful. I should have known!!!
I could not get the engine running right with the carbs and finally after taking it for a run for the first time legally (Regoed) it misfired badly, got very hot and then when i took the plugs out number 4 electrode was shut tight.
With no money left I cried whilst i took the engine out and stripped it. It turns out the plug had not touched the piston as I had thought but must have got so hot the electrode bent however the bores were still very glazed so I left it as is waiting to pay off my debts and afford a rebuild.
Typically as you do i kept looking at all the forums while I couldn't afford anything and kept seeing different bargains for different engines which made me change my mind about the direction I would go in almost every day. Firstly i wanted to rebuild my Pinto into a 200hp jobby, Then I thought I wouldn't mind building a competitive 1600 class car, then i thought no spend less on the engine and more on doing rallies so back to just getting mine rebuilt.
Finally I thought F*ck it and I have bought (well the bank has ) a bargain Duratec from the UK complete with most of the gear to drop it in my car. Its got some nice bits with the potential to go more revs and more power in the future. It's still sitting in Wales at the moment but I'm now content that this is the way I'm going!!

The engine comes with scholar spec cams and machined pistons to accomodate the higher lift. 11-1 compression ratio. ARP bolts through out inc flywheel bolts etc. The engine has a fairfew modifications for reliability such as cam chain mod etc. The engine will also come with the retro ford world cup cross member and engine mounts
It produced 232bhp@6750rpm on a Dyno that i know well in the UK (Vince Mosely).
So not massive power but enough to be getting on, with driving in the forest and reliable to! Hopefully!
I'd really love to do the ARC classics....but I'd be dreaming at the moment unless one of my IT vendor customers wants to sponsor me.
But at the moment it'll probably be an AMSAG round at the end of the year sometime, if my funds allow.
I'm changing over to a Hilux Diff, my supposedly new internals gearbox I bought from someone is crunching on third gear so that needs sorting, got to have my Radiator modified (swap outlet sides), swap to a hydraulic clutch setup and run new fuel lines (Bosch fuel pump, swirl pot, new pressure regulator and filter, return line back to swirl pot) for the injection so its going to be a while before the cars ready again.
My conversion wheel nuts turned up so I can run normal wheel studs on the back with my Grp4 wheels....and I fitted some 20mm spacers (thanks Mr. McNab) which make the rear wheels fill the arch much better...

Nearly killed myself getting it out of the Landcruiser by myself but I'm well chuffed....As you can see it was a case of easing it down a level at a time.
Why can't it Automagically fit itself into the car now? I want to go play....
