It's been a while since i've posted any updates, so continuing with the body work, i've flatten the doors:


Threw the remaining orange paint onto the LHR:


then after seeing MK1_Oz's car tried a bit of green on the RHR:


Since both the arches now are accepatable I've moved back to the interior:

I'm still very undecided on the final color but it's been fun "practicing" with the paints.

The white car is unfortunately a bit sick - since the oil cooler line incident the engine now refuses to rev over 4K. I have good oil pressure and it idles fines without excessive noise. I have checked the cam timing, and rocker clearences so i'm now hoping it's fuel or spark related. But with all the bog dust flying around i've been loathed to get into the mechanicals.

I got to go and play at the McRae Rallysprint tonight, and finally I managed to finished an event in 2012

The only other escort was the other Rothmans replica kicking about over here in the west:


Unfortunately he clipped a curb on run three and broke the steering rack. We ended up 3rd in class by only 1.5 seconds. Hopefully for the next round i'll have the good engine back together so we should be able to improve on that.

Danny has advised me to run a remote oil filter pre oil cooler. Can anyone who is running a remote pil filter set-up give me some pictures of the set-ups?

I'm currently looking at the Mocal/aeroquip stuff:

Got home to a nice little package the other night:


Much to my relief they even fit - I was worried about the width of the wings etc.

Getting in and out is going to be real bitch with that saintz bar

I'm off to Barbegello this Sunday for the VSCC WA Stampede - I'm a little worried about the amount of water it spat out during the last sprint but hopefully a new rad cap will fix the issue.

2012 VSCC WA Stampede - The second event in a row where I managed to drive the car onto the trailer after finishing all runs!

I only have one video downloaded so far - its my first run so is pretty messy - my times and consistency did improve through out the day, on clean runs I was almost 2 seconds faster than last year.

After each run the radiator required about 4litres of water so I suspect a blown HG pressurising the coolant system 







Next event is round 2 of the McRae Sprint series on the 11th Dec, so I have two weekends to get it fixed (and tile the ensuite)

What head gasket is it running

Hi Danny,

I fitted a standard 40tho one I got off Racetune when I assembled this engine (I was in a rush and the MLS one hadn't arrived from the states). It started to throw water during the last event but I was hoping is was just the radiator cap, but that has now been replaced.

Shall I restart the thread about the need to re-torque?

Yeah I could be interested in the Duratec Manifold. That project is once again on the backburner due to house reno's (keepiong her-in-doors happy so I can go racing next year).

Which studs/bolts and what tension did you pull the head down to

Danny, This "old" engine runs standard (but new) bolts and I followed the Haynes manual torque specs.
