A little more progress thisarvo. The inner guard needed splitting to allow it to be pushed out enough to match up with the new flare.

A couple of holes will allow me to plug weld the inner guard. Finish it off tomorrow hopefully.

to flare the gaurds its much quicker to place a large plastic garbage bag
on top of the tyre in the wheelarch area then inflate the bag with a nice
mixture of Oxygen & Acetalene gas then lay a long trail of petrol from
the bag to a good safe distance then ignite the petrol trail
BOOM baby now you have instantly flared gaurds
so simple , cheap , fast & good fun too

I'll give that a shot Steve, I'll be around next week to try it out on yours first though!

Anyway, I don't have an oxy set so i just had to do it the old fashioned way. All welded in now and ready for a skim of filler to finish it off. Time for the other side soon..

Thanks guys, I did the same thing this time last year with the front end! I'd like to try some wider tyres so the rear needed to be flared out as the 175's were already rubbing. A tight deadline is sometimes the only way I get things done on this car anyway. It won't be a show paint job either, good enough for a racecar though. I can finally stop writing 'multi shades of green' on my entry forms as well...

Hopefully the other side goes a bit quicker

...and because my shed really does have a 'dark side' I needed to spin the car around to see what i was doing down the left side. Original wheels look a bit skinny now.

this side should be a breeze, I copied the finished flare outline before i welded it in the other side so it was a simple case of trace around and cut the hole. Then I ran out of day. again..

A little more progress over the last 2 nights.

Tidied up the cutout, expanded the inner guard and fitup of the new flare.

All welded in ready for a bit of filler. Hope to get friday off work to get stuck into finishing it off. Fully undercoated by saturday and the finish layers on Sunday (all things good... )

In my experience you can get away with finishing an hour before an event!!

Ive had hose fittings still being attached, tightened and bled in the dummy grid after a between heat rebuild/flush! Track marshall's don't like it much! nor did the poor driver, Me!

Thanks guys! The car's mechanically ready to go, about the only plans are to switch to the 7 plugs from the 6's that i run in it at the hillclimbs. It ran at Noosa a few weeks ago without any problems.

Paintwise, it's done. Bloody rough, but good enough for the track.
