I have the same/similar radiator. I was trying to get it to fit bit the spring to the hood release was fouling. So I wasnt sure if I had to take the spring out. Looking at your pic, it looks like I do!
I took out the bonnet lock but have kept the spring in there purely to push against the bonnet pins stopping them from coming out. To be honest I have not fitted the bonnet since putting the rad in but rough measurments say all is good.
Since the last post there has been a working bee. I had 10 blokes (all strangers to me!) working for a day in teh shed. Got so much done.
I have just finished moving the dry sump bulkhead fittings in the engine bay as they foul the carbies. The fuel reg also got moved.
Wiring is complete (and works!!!!), wheels on, windows in, all brakes and clutch done ready for bleeding, terratrip probe in (hope it works but is currently looking at allan key head bolts so might not), carbies hopefully in tomorrow as the linkages I bought are utter rubbish so I have some more coming in tomorrow, fingers crossed I can try to start it tomorrow night.
The bottom end of the motor has been refreshed. What is the thinking these days regarding running in? I bought some Penrite 'Running In' mineral oil to start with then will flush and put the Valvoline Dura Blend Semi Synthetic 15/50 in that the builder recommended.
Had a scrutinner pop over today to logbook the car. He ticked off most things but obviously couldn't check the kill switch or throttle springs etc. Will talk to CAMS tomorrow (oh shivers that's today now) regarding whether the last bits can be done at event scrutineering.
I bought some second hand Dunlop semi slicks from a bloke in Adelaide who had them on his......RS200 Evo spec!!!!! I spent ages looking at his Capri Perana and the RS200. I was in total awe of that thing. Watched them in the forests of the UK before but never touched one.
7 days until scrutineering and hopefully 3 until we break it in at the track.
I told Mk1Paul I would put some pics up tonight but seeing as I have just got in from the shed I am just too tired....but I will, promise.
Got the angle grinder onto the oil pump pulley and oil flows!! It is only dripping out of the camshaft spray bar but I cannot tell what revs I have on the pulley. I am about to use mirrors to read the oil pressure guage to see if I get pressure.
Ok, after major issues with the oil system yesterday (the engine builder left the rear oil gallery seal out and I pumped 2 litres of oil over the floor before I realised there was no oil pressure.....thanks a heap Danny for the advice! ) I did not fire up the motor. It is getting the zorst fitted at the minute with a 4 wheel alignment this afternoon. I will try to fire it up tonight!!
I have sorta asked this question before but cannot find the thread so here goes...The engine was previously tuned for avgas. I have changed the carbies to ones that are pretty much set up for 98 octane which is what I will be running. The engine has 12 degrees advance BTDC @ 1000 rpm. I don't know the total advance. I am trying to work out if I need to somehow (!!!!!!!!!) fit in a dyno tune session before Tuesday.
My plan was to run it round the block to see if it detonates which advice previously from you guys suggested it would not. Without knowing what the advance curve is like it is a bit of an unknown. I dont understand advance curve changes for various fuels but with 12 degrees initial do you all think I will be OK? I read that a standard 2L Pinto is 12 degrees anyway?
Stress stress stress........I will be too tired for Classic Adelaide at this rate with all these 2am finishes in the shed!
Cheers. I am not sure that the Sierra dizzy can be adjusted for total advance without pulling apart so it is a little beyond me how to do it but hear what your saying.
Oz: If you have a adjustable timing light then dial in 30degrees, point at front of engine, rev to 3000rpm+ and check the timing mark....
If you have a static timing light then you'll need to mark 30degrees on your crank pulley, then rev to 3000rpm+ and ensure the max advance does not exceed the your mark.
You then adjust your base idle up/down to ensure you max advance doesn't exceed the desire level.
I noticed nextday express postage form WA to SA is actually 2 nights.
My Targa West was over before it began with my driver withdrawing the night before the event due to a conflict of interest between his company and the teams main sponsor. It turns out he is (or maybe "was" now) the contractors manager for a multi million dollar contract with them! Bugger
mk 1 oz good to see yu gave yorself a deadline to get the car going i did similar a few years ago with my car enter in an event & then you have something to aim for--- dont get disheartened , i didnt have any brake lines 2 days before the event ( speedontweed 2009) just get it going the main thing is you are havin a bit of a go !! i gaurantee the 1st drive you have should put a smile on yur face & dont forget to post some pics
i bought a decent in car camera so will be able to post some action shots too!
Been having dramas with getting fuel pressure regulator to seal. Keeps leaking like a sieve!! I bought NPT fittings so don't understand it :( Stopped us from trying to fire it up tonight
