What clutch cable are you running ? Is it the shorter one to suit the kent engined cars ?

The 2L cable or the longer 2L TE cortina cable, will run it around the outside of the pipes

It is the shorter Escort cable Damion, but using the longer cable and going around the outside of the pipes is not going to make any difference as the cable exits the firewall dead in the centre of the exhaust. I may have to try and move the exit point closer to the engine

won't the fibre glass protection hold up to it even though it's rubbing on it ? probably just wear through after a while, i know it's only my road car but my cables got a hi energy fibreglass sheath and it rests against the exhaust it's the short cable seems alright

Gary thats about where mine were with the YB.
Run the Cortina cable (with the rubber cut off) around the outside with a piece of thicker wire (fencing wire) pulling it away from the pipes and with a fibreglass sleave (i've got a bag full of them)
It should have been the same with the old pipes as I always had to run the cable around the outside of them as well when the engine was in my car

Now that I have released the cable from the little bracket I had bolted to the engine mount, I seem to have enough clearance to do the job. I will just have to put a bracket somewhere further to the rear to wire it to instead. Thanks for the help people

You seem to have this sorted.

Another cable trick a few of the rally boys swear by is they get their cables made from scratch by Marine Control Systems at Labrador. They will make up a cable with the required ends (any length you need so you can go a little longer) but they will make them up without a liner.

End result is that there is no plastic inside to melt and drag. Realistically you still need a heatshield as you do still need to run some high temp grease in the outer.

Shaun I get batches of the fibreglass heat shield tubes made up and it doesn't matter if the cables has the plastic sheath and only change the cable every few years out of guilt
