Swaybar, struts and lower control arms fully installed, just need to throw the rotors on and attack the brakes:
Just an outsiders opinion (I realise it was late when you'd finished). I think the picture needs a steering rack to assist with addressing corners at racetracks - unless this is going to be used at the drags
There are people who make things happen, people who watch what happened and those who have no idea what happened - which one are you?
Another late one so I'm keeping it brief. Lots done today with help from my father and Gary, lots more jobs crossed off the list. Front hub bearings packed, seals installed and the hubs installed, mk1 handbrake linkage modified to suit the mk2 drums, struts now fully installed and more progress on the cage. On David's advice I sourced a steering rack and installed it, and also got the engine/gearbox/tailshaft in. Just realised, this time next week we'll be at Morgan Park
More progress today. Seat mounts finished thanks to the head start Gary gave me on getting rid of the old ones. Also got most of the exhaust system made, just one more bend and a couple of straight bits will finish it off. None of the front calipers we had initially found were any good for rebuilding. Dad dug up another set thisafternoon which I will check out tomorrow sometime, he has already made up a set of sleeves to adapt the Mk2 calipers to the Capri struts. Radiator cleaned out and installed as well as the fan also.
Front brakes finished and plumbed up to the inner guards. Made new hard lines to adapt the Mk2 calipers to the Mk1 hoses. I will reuse the original lines for the front brakes in the engine bay. Day off bill-paying work tomorrow big push towards the finish line...
Yeah, I think I'll be working on it on the trailer on the way to Morgan Park. Dog dislikes everyone equally, there's only a handful of people that he would ever let near him.
Big day again, back to real work for a rest in the morning. All the brake lines under the car and in the engine bay are done, just need to run a line from the m/c's to the front tee and the rear flex line which terminates inside. Spent a lot of time getting the pedal box into shape, reworking the accelerator pedal to suit a standard cable and fixing the cylinder pushrod length so that the cylinders weren't under load at 'rest' - took about 5mm off the ends to achieve this. Gearbox is bolted up and filled, breather line attached. Clutch cable spacer made and trial fitted, once the pedal box goes in tomorrow accelerator and clutch cables will be finished. Engine oil filled minus the bit that ran down the back of the block, seems that if your rocker cover bolt bottoms out before the gasket is tight it tends to leak a bit - and scares the sh1t out of the engine builder until he figures out where he went wrong
That's exactly what I was just thinking Simon. Such a great build to watch. It's nearly exactly how I want mine to be built as well, except you've done all this in about a week, whereas mine has taken years, and its still nowhere near done! Keep burning the midnight oil, you'll get it done
Hi all, long hours spent on the car over the last couple of days with both Gary and my father lending a much appreciated hand. Unfortunately, through my own f'up there was a showstopper yesterday arvo when it came time to bleed the brakes. Turns out I stuffed up the fitting into one of the master cylinders and don't have any replacements at hand. That along with all the wiring I still had to do would have made it pretty much impossible to finish in time. Anyway, there's a motorkhana at Willowbank next Sunday (4th) that I'll try to get out to and give it a run, and possibly then enter in the historic regs at Lakeside on the 24-25th March.
scott , brakes are only a luxury dont worry about them (didnt bother anthony tanzer in his mk1) just run a hotwire to the ign / coil you will be good to go
Thanks Steve, not planning on using the brakes much, hence the drums on the back. Looking outside I'm kind of glad I'm not heading to Morgan Park at the moment, need an Evinrude rather than a kent this weekend.
Anyway, still trying to get it together for next weekend and here's a couple of pics from the recent work.

The downfall: (parts on order now to rectify)

Most of the engine bay finished, I am waiting on finalising the pedal box before I hook up the throttle and clutch.

Catch tanks for radiator and engine/gearbox vents installed, pretty much all finished

wiring to start tomorrow, too wet to mow the grass
Good luck to all those going to MP this weekend, I'd love to drive certain parts of it sideways
bloody good effort anyway scott but dont be a sook & get scared of a wet track it will teach yu more about driving than 20 dry track days besides that its heaps of fun in the wet at least this gives yu a chance to finish it properly
Well done Scott...Firstly how the hell you built the car so fast I don't know but secondly doing it so fast and making it look so good is almost impossible...I'm trying to do mine before the 31st of march and its got scratches everywhere!
