After moving house to Yatala in September, taking 50 kids on a music tour of NZ, moving company offices in both Sydney & Melbourne and playing dad to all the things that schools & sporting groups do towards the end of the year, I’ve finally managed to get my new shed going.

It’s not a car build but it’s just as big a job in some ways. As the house we bought didn’t have a shed the good thing was I could get something I wanted and not have to compromise. My darling wife said to me “don’t get something too small that we have to upgrade later, do it right first time!” Couldn’t agree more so off shed shopping I went

I ended up at The Shed Stop at Nerang who sell the Fair Dinkum shed range. Can’t speak too highly of this husband & wife team as they have been excellent. While all the others said 6-8 weeks to get Gold Coast council approval, Mike had it in 11 working days

Shed is 16m x 12m and will be 3.8m high with a 15 degree roof pitch. There’ll be three roller doors across the front with the fourth bay having a mezzanine giving me another 48m2 of floor space. There’s also a 12m x 4m concrete apron in front of the doors to allow easy access. Attached are some pics of progress to date. The slab’s down and the kit turns up on the 13th and it will be fully assembled by the 21st.

Next jobs are concrete sealing/painting, power and rainwater drainage. I’m talking to my sparky this weekend and am hopeful to get three phase installed.

Can’t wait for the new man cave to be finished and have all my shite in the one place again

Hey Nev - couldn't you get the shed guy to throw in a hoist to seal the deal? (Or have you got one in all that shyte).

Thats the size of our pergola - trust me you will fill it quickly and wonder why you didn't go bigger.

Make sure you insulate it well, worth every penny.

What do you have in mind for floor sealing ?

Tell your sparky you want 50amps/phase down there. That way if you have a 250A single phase mig or tig, you can run it at 100% duty cycle. Ask for a 20A 1 phase outlet off of a 40A CB in the shed for the welder. Sounds like overkill but it saves a lot of tripped breakers and frustration.

Of course you can get a nice big 3 phase machine instead.

Nev, you sound like me! I have 20m x 13m and the only piece of 'garden stuff' in there is the ride on and thats only because it doesnt fit in the outside garden shed! Garage-a-saurus must be kept for cars and machinery and other materials relating to.

The mezzanine is great too but it can be a trap for hoarding shizen! The last owner of my place was here for about 13 years and it took them 4 weeks of monday to Friday to clear it out!

Time for an update.

Kit got delivered last Friday and this week has been construction. Today the roof goes on and the doors are hung, then tomorrow guttering and a few finishng touches.

Can't wait to move in

Hi Nev, how is the shed progressing? I thought I would share some photos of my current shed. This is the smaller (18 x 9) of two. Good luck with your layout, mine has changed numerous times including moving the hoist twice . The best thing that I did was to not bolt anything down including the lights. The other advantage is that the larger shed (23 x 24) is suitable for storing all of the junk and cars that we are not working on out of my way.
