MK1 Lo-Fi Project

Postby Cort500 » Mon Oct 28, 2013 4:12 pm

Well I have finally decided to restore my mk1 RS2000 replica.
Stripped boot and interior and next is engine bay.
Photos to come.

It's still ongoing but am at a cross roads. I am deciding wether or not to get it all blasted as a roller or put it on a stand not rotisserie.
Can any one recommend a blasting place that will etch prime it after the blasting?
Any info will be appreciated :)

I cannot help with places to get your car blasted but I can say that I do not regret the $550 I spent on getting mine done. Reveals all the rot and gives a nice clean canvas to work with. Rotisserie vs stand comes down to what areas of the car need work and whether you like welding/spraying upside down!

Thanks for the tip mate. Did you get yours sand blasted or soda blasted? Or a combo? I spoke to Unicoatings on the north side and they said about the $1500 mark, blasted and etch primed. Does this seem like a good price?

That seems like a rubbish price to me mate!!! Cost me $550 to get the car sand blasted then etch primed. They didn't do the large flat areas (roof, door skins, bonnet, boot) just incase they warped. I did those with chemical stripper and a scotch stripping wheelie thing. Obviously I am in Adelaide so things may be a fraction cheaper but $1500 sounds wayyyy to much unless of course that is a soda blasting price with added gold flakes!

Tossing up wether or not to use my fiberglass forest arches and cut up my twin cam guards or to get full fiberglass forest arched panels. Has anyone had much to do with them? I am curious to see how the fasten/bolt to body. I have no interst in IP racing so I am not concerned with the rule book.

Well it's a change of direction for me. I am picking up another mk1 that had all the work that I want. So after 18 years I think I may have to part it.
New car comes tomorrow.......keep you posted.
