Crossply race tyres

Deciding on tyres - Hoosiers or Avons are the only ones making crossply slicks now. At least with black you won't see the brake dust. If I get time I'll redo them gold, otherwise.....

North terrace tyers are the OZ agents for goodyears.
I am hearing good reports about these especially on Historic touring cars, bigger cars, though.

but why are crossply tyres used in competition when they are so bad as road tyres ?

So why would you want radials. Because radials will give you better overall traction. They are more stable under braking, as the overall tyre construction is more solid. They are less sensitive to trye pressures, and will give you more even temps across the tyre surface. However they have a lower slip angle, and once you’ve reached that point, they fall off the traction curve much faster. Translated to the track, you have more traction up to the slip angle point, but little forgiveness once there.


Which basically translated means, car will be 2 odd seconds a lap faster, will need to be driven straighter, but with suspension modifications
