Toyota 5speed into MK2 manual.

Postby INBreplica » Wed May 04, 2011 9:31 am

I have been given a Toyota 5 speed (out of a RA40 Celica) and am wondering what sort of dramas are involved in fitting it into a MK2 with a manual tunnel.
Are there aftermarket conversions available?
I want to go 5speed in my rally car as I will be running a fairly short diff ratio (5.3:1)
Will this box be strong enough to handle a reasonable strong Pinto?
Thanks in advance for any input.

a few tricks , try a toyota corona rt104 tailshaft & just change the rear yoke (same size uni as escort) , i found it perfect length
otherwise you will have to get one made because the toyota g/box is shorter than escort
the other trick i found was to use a capri g/box mount
as far as strength goes , they are ok the only problem i have heard is they suffer from
a weak 5th gear , but probably perfect for your aplication
