Small pipes to suit a small engine :grin:

I’m only spinning it to 7000 with a “small” 520X cam, std bottom end and 45’s.
This should raise my peak torque / rpm just enough to be workable in the 5-7k range.
Yep, if I wanted to go to 8k, they’re too small. It was pulling 140 RWHP with the 1 ½” pipes, but it’s a twin cam next. :wink:

Clayton still too small for what you're doing as you should have gone straight up to 1&7/8" primaries

Going to be a black top……yeah I know, valves too small etc etc. But it was cheap and will bolt straight up to the supra gearbox, unlike the Duratec.

Apart from the pipe sizes, does it pass the inspection ??

Thanks Clayton they certainly look sensational. Make sure you get us some installed photos. I was wondering how you were going to get those radiuses into an Escort engine bay. I thought they must have been for an open wheeler!!

I wish my 10 year old extractors would die for good so I would have to find the $1300 to get a set that looked that good!!!!!!

Yeah they definitely fit an Escort, built them in-situ. The collector sits between and just at the top of the chassis rail and steering column. Hence the height of the pipes to make 28”. We’re painting the body at the moment, so it may take a while to get installed photos.

Make a set yourself and save a packet, they were quite simple in the end compared to a set of crossovers.
Competition Coating did a great job with the ceramic, very happy.

Danny it may well make more peak power, but it’ll probably loose more of the lower end power / torque than the smaller pipes on my engine. Hopefully it’ll have a flatter curve, time will tell.
We could debate this until the cows come home. What I will be doing is checking the news pipes on the exact same engine (no other mods) and on the same dyno.
Will post the results when done.

clayton you will probably find that the bigger 4-2-1 that I do will make more everywhere on yours as I set them up that way so that the air speed is constantly accelerating where as the way yours have been done is the old pulse length method where the gas will speed up along the 28" but as soon as it hits that collector the air will hit a stand still and pool and rely on the next charge to push everything along where as mine will keep gathering speed and create a better scavenge out of the exhaust port and a negative pressure when the inlet valve opens which is what you want
