Email I got from Shannons this morning.....

Thanks for your email regarding the quote for your escort. Unfortunately after further review we are still unable to offer any higher
agreed value for your particular vehicle as we feel that the $12000 figure accurately represents the value of similar vehicles in the
current market.

Unlike some other insurers Shannons only offer policies with a genuine agreed value, rather than 'agreed or market value, whichever is the lesser'. What that means is that we do not re negotiate your vehicle's value at the time of claim, so we only after an agreed value that we feel is accurate.

Thankyou for your feedback, but we are to offer you anything further on this occasion.

So yeah. I'm of two minds here. We would REALLY like to have the car insured for more than 12k ....

Mind you it's been a week and dawes still havent sent the written quote after three calls.

ARGH. Insurance companies suck. All of them!!

It's cost approx 30k over 4 years, which is why I kicked up a stink when they said 10k.

Not trying to get your nose out of joint , i haven't seen your car in the flesh so please don't take this the wrong way, but i reckon that Shannons have been more than fair with their quote to you.

Unless you car has some significant race, rally, competition history or has had a significant person fart in the drivers seat or is a rare and high in demand model (for Escort see RS), then at the end of the day it is just another MK2 Escort 2 door that is slightly modified and restored.

The fact that you have spent $30,000 dollars is irrelevant, you will only get a value on the what the car is worth, and to be honest, i think you are beyond the upper limit already with the quote they have given you. A MK2 GL at $12,000 - try and sell your car for that and see how long it takes.

I know some of the top show cars down here in Vic that have had probably 3 times the amount of money and more spent on them over the years and have earned cabinets full of show trophies and awards at various shows are not insured for anything near what they have had poured into them, not much more than what Shannons are offering yourself.

That's pretty much what Shannons said to us. They've been really good to deal with - and we've decided to go with them.

After the f***ing around with Dawes and Just cars - Shannons have been tops.

what about ? Independant valuations to the insurance companys , from
expert technical ppl ? , the likes of - nev , dany , rodger , glen etc etc ?
wouldnt this be a fair judgment on insurance values ??
resale value is another can of worms but at least an expert apraisal
of some of these diferent model types , modifications, history etc
would go a fair way to determining insurance premiums .
dont forget , this website is pretty much a national register of escorts
& could well be called upon to supply info if ever needed.
ps just my 2 cents worth but i have seen shannons suport motor racing recently

I dont like shannons myself and they are expensive and ask a load of questions, they are basically just AAMI in disguise..
try Torque, they are underwitten by Lumley and ask few questions and you get choice of repairer and eveything and more than shannons can offer.
they quoted me $150 per annum for $4500 value, shannons wanted over $250.
