Rear disc problem

Has anyone had any trouble with Rear disc conversions using handbrake type calipers?

I am using the Burton (other manufacturers do the same setup too) rear disc conversion using Sierra Cos/Scorpio rear calipers and Peugeot discs

The problem I have with mine is when I corner hard on track the axle shaft flexes, and the disc leans over in the caliper just enough to make a bad noise against the brake pads and make sure they get too hot.
So after a few laps the fluid is starting to boil and the discs are blue.
It seems Ok on the road, it's just when cornering much faster.

The problem seems to be that because the calipers are screw/ratchet out types, the pistons won't just knock off slightly when the disc leans over, if it was a non handbrake caliper I am sure the piston would back up slightly, the pedal would be a bit longer but shouldn't be too bad.

Anyone else had this problem with this type of setup? if so how did you get round it?

can't offer any info, but am interested in you problem...I am about to get a set of rear Cossie discs and calipers for my Mk1 Escort track car, I know you run the handbrake for the road but do you know if the handbrake setup (ie adjuster) can be disabled so the problem doesn't occur?

If it is for track use, and you will have a quick car, I would consider using something else.

I have used them before on a few cars that were trackday toys, and they worked really well, plus they had a road legal handbrake,
They also seemed pretty good on mine, but as soon as I got some slicks on it the problem started.

Previous cars I used this on were unarched using standard axle widths, so it may be that the problem is much more exaggerated on my car as it uses a very wide track rear end, so possibly causing more leverage/flex.
I don't know it seems a bit odd

I think if I used a non handbrake caliper then the pistons would just knock back slightly and the pedal would obviously have slightly more travel, but I could live with that, as there is almost zero travel just now.

Other popular conversions in the Uk involved Fiesta disc rotors, and MK3/4 Escort front calipers, so I may try and find something like that for my car, either that or I may try the BMW rear calipers I have sitting around.

I have had some handbrake calipers apart before for a look, and I am sure I could alter the screw mechanism so they dont lock, so that may be the other option

Have had pad knock off with peugeot calipers on small axle diffs, but not the disc heating issue.

The skyline/pintarra caliper is a sliding type which will move with the disc. These on a hilux diff have not presented an issue with knock off or other dramas.

The hilux axle and bearing are a lot larger so less flexing in combo with sliding caliper works well.

Full floating setup on your current diff would fix it. Caliper change might fix it.

Peugeot 106 GTi rear discs, lathe them down to 237mm.

You will also need reduce the size of your axle flange slightly to fit inside the disc centre, I ground mine on the lathe.

another popular Uk conversion uses Fiesta front rotors, not sure what would be easiest to get here though
