head gaskets

can some one please tell me the difference between a
MULTI-SHIM HEAD GASKET and a MULTI-LAYER STEEL head gasket?
is one better or are they both the same?

Same thing.
I've used Cometic and Felpro on Windsor V8's. Check the alignment of the various holes. Spotty QA on some Cometic gaskets.

If there is a Felpro or HKS MLS (unlikely) they might be worth researching.

Good finish on the mating surfaces is important. These gaskets only have a thin rubber layer and are not forgiving. If the block is untouched it should be OK. Some head surfacing is pretty rough; on cast iron I reckon you want a finish closer to ground than flycut.

As Markus said they are the same thing.

If your interested I stock them 83-87mm in .040" and .051".

Price is $135

As long as a tip in good condition is used at the correct speed and correct feed the finish will be fine.
