what diff?
hi guys im currently building a 1600 kent turbo and considering my diff would fly out the back in not much time at all what should i be looking at? taking into account i want to stay with 4 stud to keep it semi original looking?
How much power do you think it will make? Will it be on R spec tyres?
I'd be tempted to run standard rear end until something breaks. Guys upgrade unnecessarily too often to the hilux which will take a bit to fit and is super heavy. If you choose standard you can buy up rated axles from Quaife and the like which bolt in with no modification.
Im actually not to sure as not many people have attempted the conversion so have had no one to ask dropped the compression to about 8.1 and will be running around 10 to 12 pound boost with a t3 turbo.. Won't be R spec tyres but will have some decent treads 7" wide. Will have a t9 5 speed box. Is it a possibility to run a 2 litre diff and see how things pan out?
I think that's the wrong advice. Stick with the T9 and standard diff. If something breaks you may have to upgrade but may not have to. Nothing to lose by trying it. I wonder if all the guys that upgrade to hilux actually broke something before they upgrade. Prove them wrong mate!
It'll be fine! There is a guy down here with a Datto 1200 with a turbo A12. The turbo he is running would be more efficient than yours and it's on E85. He runs 15 x 7 AO50 and does 33's around Winton (super fast!). He has the standard peanut sized 1200 ute rear end - no issues!
I think there are plenty of escorts the have needlessly upgraded - don't join the club!
We had a 200hp zetec with a Quaife clubman 4 speed, standard rear end. Hill climb car. Broke one axle.
What's the problems you're having with the T9?
200 hp is highly achievable - I just don't think he'll have a problem.
My car has well in excess of 200 rwkw, 15 x 8 and was running an English axle with Quaife axles.... Did you consider that before adding the kg of a hilux? Given weight is a critical factor of hill climbing?
There will be plenty of wheel spin coming from the rear specially being only 22 and 2 many people think v8s and the such are unbeatable in my town haha il stick to me t9 for now with me standard diff or whack me 2ltr diff in as have one sitting around and if it shits itself il get some quafes n see how we go from.there thanks guys will be sure to post some pics soon =)
As far as I know the only difference with the 2L diff is the ratio is 3.54. The 1600 had 3.77. You could go for a 4.11. Don't go with the 3.54 it will be to tall with the 5 speed.
Thanks Marty il keep that in mind thought the rs diff mite have bein abit more heavy duty but if thats not the case there isn't much use in changing it over haha can't wait to start pulling the old girl to bits and giving her a make over fingers crossed she mite be out for small ford Sunday next year...
yes i vote for the std rear end(unless money is not an issue), just don't launch it and make sure you buy the right springs to eliminate the tramp , diffs will blow easy if they tramp, i've never blown one in my 2lt turbo but it is giving up, locking the centre makes it stronger so those spider gears don't blow , just feed the power on when your rolling, and that 10-12psi will probably end up at 18 - 20psi in 3 months of driving haha.
