I'm trying to get as much info as possible for setting the timing on my 711M crossflow with a DCOE weber and disconnected vacuum advance with the standard motocraft distributor. I'm trying to find a kit with some different weights and springs to change the timing curve. It would be great if anyone can help me out with some guides or info or business' around Brisbane that could help. Thanks
Do you know what sort of curve you want? I haven't played with motorcraft distributors, but mostly the slots that the timing mechanism works through is welded up and filed back to set the limit of total advance, with the spring tensions being adjusted by slightly bending the posts that they are attached to outward to increase the tension. David Jones Auto electrics at Bowen Hills still have a dsitributor graph and hopefully someone who knows how to use it.
To find the ideal curve in the dim dark past before ECUs, the advance mechanism was locked up and the car run on the dyno using different amount of static advance, running the engine in the lower rev ranges, looking at the results, and listening for detonation, to determine the ideal curve which is mostly not able to be exactly achieved through mechanical means.
