Just got me a nice brand new head so, the first one may go onto the old engine for a bit of fun. For a non turbo application, what oil pump is normally required. Will a standard pinto one work or will it not supply the head. While Im here what distribtor will work, Again I assume a standard one. Hoping just to bolt the head on with some carbs and OK exhaust and put it in the road car. (valve pockets etc of course) Not looking for 1 million horsepower just more than what its got ad the sound.

Cheers,

Justin P

Damn echos!
I have thought that, but as I now have two heads and two pinto based bottom ends I might as well...plus nothing gets the pulse racing like COSWORTH. Well the sensation of pulling the wallet out of the back pocket again!!! gets the pulse racing and brow beading.

Plus the mrs's would kill me if another engine arrived in the living room!

JP,
Once I finish mine, I'll pm you with what it is and how much AUD it takes to get "x" RWHP over a pinto. Read my posts re exhaust to see where I'm at. I am not a DUDE, that is reserved for only the best!
My car is not known on this forum, all I can tell you is that on old tyres I have got her to do 63's @ Lakeside with a Pinto and I'm +50yrs so if I hit a wall its takes longer to recover
I'm on a mission, with a new engine builder that has talent and guts to get these older cars to do more than they were designed to do! ref: RS Turbos car, and Turbo RS
Regards

I agree with the Duratec

We ran 2.0 ones in Sillhouettes and they were awesome

It is easy to get 200-220 flywheel horsepower for a fraction of the cost of getting the same from a N/A YB

A stock one on carbs or throttle bodies can easily produce 180-190bhp, and they are tough too, except the timing chain/tensioner issue on high revving ones

And they weigh less than a X-flow

You are in the UK you can pick up a low mileage Duratec from a write off for about the price of a good Indian meal for 2

Bang for your buck they are pretty unbeatable

Oh and if you want it to say Cosworth, then why not buy a brand new in the crate duratec straight from Cosworth or Burton, built to various specs?

Personally I love YB's but if I wanted a good atmo engine, I would start with a good atmo engine rather than something designed for forced loving

Paul T,
I to have been along this line of thought. As an older Escort owner and having been an owner and player since my teens ( now 50+). I find that an engine based upon the orginal concept is a hard thing not to do.
I have a plan for the next adventure. Fesitva fitted with a 2.3 Duratec (300hp Cosworth) modified to be rear wheel drive, maybe using an independant rear from an earlier ford or ?????
For now we will finish this Old Girl and see how she flies. Currently we are leading the QR Top Gear Sprint Road Registered 4 Group and 3rd overall. Not bad for a 37 year old.(car) against Honda Type R techno.

Guys, thanks for the input

not doing it for power. I have a spare good N/A head and a few bits so thought i'd throw it onto the old engine, hoping for an improvement at best but not a loss in power compared to whats there, without spending much more money on it, but this engine is not for the Mk1, but a cheap 130-140 hp cosworth engine in a Mk2 roadie sounds nice!. I have done the sums and the Turbo cosworth im also building, was the most cost effective way of getting the sort of power Im after, sure a 300HP non turbo duratec may be quicker round a circuit, but the cost of that and everything else to get it into my escort pushed its well beyond what I am spending on the YB, and prepared to spend on the car also I gather that would be a well stressed Duratec vs a mildly stressed YB in turbo fiorm. Plus I feel, perhaps im old-m-skool but I like the look and feel of the YB in the Mk1s engine bay.

cheerio
