Heard good things about that engine guy (666rat666)?

No need to dowel flywheel on cossie crank to cossie flywheel.

Ford bearings are good but if going to larger sizes (0.5mm) then ACL race series will be better.

Stick with the spray bar instead of spray jets as they rob the main gallery.

Definately HV/HV pump. Not one of the cosworth billet ones!

Seen this from a few people.

Weld them before it happens.

Lincoln,

Thanks for the link, fortunately the billet with cap screws doesn't fit with in a modified RS2000 sump.

Thanks lincoln,

Yes he comes well recommended and seems to run a good operation from what I have seen.
The high volume pumps, some 15mm taller wont fit in a standard sump so, Its High Pressure pinto, or standard pressure Cosworth pump. I have discovered its not worth the cost ofthe T25 squirters, wont be dowling and using ACL bearings...Are they tri or bi metal bearings?

Cheers,

JP

Decided the best way forward was a new cosworth head. the original one is an unknown quantity and this came up at a reasonable price. Im the third owner but its never been fitted to a car. To my surprise however it arrives having been ported to similar dimensions as described in Des Hammills book. Engine builder is to check its been done properly but my lucky day I hope as it saves me much cash not having to have it done.
The crank and flywheel has been balanced, the crank having been balanced before but the combination was significantly out, engine builder suggesting it wasnt done right originally. Fortunately however it checks out straight and only required a polish of the journals. The pistons are now being pocketed and the block is having the long stud modification done...photos to follow.

some more progress,

dummy build to determine valve reliefs and cc'ing etc mountune long studs x6
Image

Example of proposed valve cutouts, yet to be machined.
Image

Bottom end all dummy built up to check clearances. rods balanced new little end bearings just to be sure! ARP main studs and ARP rod bolts

Bottom end all built now. New head is having the spring seats lowered for the valve springs, should be finished in a week or two
Flywheel has been skimmed and also came up great
Image
The water pump was sat in Vinegar for two days and came up like new so a coat of paint was all that was needed
Image

Image

Inlet manifold has been acid dipped and should also be back soon.

JP

It's done.

Now I just need a car to wrap around it.

Another photo of pistons. this time with pockets, clearance goo and a gasket
Image

Another picture inside the bottom end. this time with an uprated oilpump and strainer/pickup

Image

Front end all timed up and complete
Image

Looks good in black, It took ages to convince Piper to let me have different coloured pulleys. I like it
Image

Yep, Looks good in black
Image

Really good in black!

Good stuff JP :)

When will you be coming back to Aus to put it to use ?

The engine builder and others have suggested I use a 25 row oil cooler, but as we know fitting one inthe front of an escort is problematic. Would two 13 row coolers plumbed in parallel or series work. Im guessing one on each side of the radiator. would parallel be better than series? might there be a pressure problem with pairs?

Cheers,

JP

You don't "have to" fit an oil cooler at the front if you are short of space. Have seen engine oil cooler fitted to Escorts horizontal between engine and stone tray under radiator, vertically under the front wheel tub under the headlight bucket, and even horizontal beside the gearbox. Some options there to think about.

Looking good Justin! Bet you can't wait to slot it between the strut tops and fire it up. Are you bringing the Subazuki with you?

the plan is to load the shitbox full of escort parts, engine, hence the engine trolley, gearboxes, heads, rust repair parts, (Not that mine is rusty but they will be good to have for the future) and the odd household bits and pieces and container it up. works out the car becomes packing for the parts and is free...based on volumes anyway.
and I cant wait for sure only 6 or 7 months to go.

Cheers,

JP
