Oil Pump Bolt

Postby MK1_Oz » Thu Jul 05, 2012 11:13 am

Feel silly asking but need to know. What type and size tool do I need to undo the oil pump from a pinto block? Looks like a Torxs but my largest is T40 and slips. Is an 8mm triple square correct (whatever that is)? Who is likely to have one on the shelf?

Off to Repco I go......

Had to ask exactly the same question a while ago.
ended up getting the bits from Burtons
Known as a XZN Bit 8mm or 12mm

should be able to get it here, looking at mine it appears to be triple square.

With a 140mm length drive you may have an issue accessing the inner bolt (if using the Kent HP/HV pump).

I used an old allen key to remove the old and bought the burtons tool to install the new bolts. When stripping the engine they had used 11mm head normal bolts which avoided the cap head issue completely.

It looks like I will be OK Paul. It's annoying that I lost nearly 2 hours and $16 just to take out 2 bolts so that I can throw away an oil pump grrr

All sorted thanks Danny. Took 6 seconds to remove once I had the right tool (as with most things!).

Now, off to make a dry sump pump bracket....take one large lump of ally and modify........
