budget pinto

The information available for these engines is a tad overwhelming.
Can someone please make some suggestions about getting some noticable improvements from a bog stock pinto without spending a fortune? (ie: bolt on mods)
I read on burton power that just a free flow zorst & FR32 cam is good for a standard motor. How about V6 capri carbs? 1.6 pinto heads?
Is the FR33 cam only worthwhile if group 1 valves are used?
Some group 1 valves and porting would be great depending on price. Puma race engines loosely claim to be the only people in the UK who understand pinto valve train geometry so who does in Australia?

Thanks

Basically you need to budget about $100 per hp if you want to add say 50% more power.

Budget <$500: Just get some 2nd hand extractors off ebay and a Kent FR30 cam. Port the std inlet manifold (see thread on removing choke butterflies on turbosport). You'll be up 15hp all going well (good value!)

Don't forget the added cost of gaskets, tools you may need to buy (torx drive to remove head), and cost of tuning afterwards if you want to get the best out of it.

Once you start playing around with big valves, twin carbs, extra compression etc the costs really add up. (see above formula of $100 per hp as a rough guide)

Some good advice in this thread:

stay with the 32/36 , get an exhaust , run a mild cam and setup up the compression ratio to suit , have the ports cleaned up ,

ps i might have some bits around for your build.. o/s valves pistons etc

Get the valve seats hardened while you've got the head off so you can run it on 98 as well which will help. Just drive around with your radio off and window down to here all the pinging engine's on the crap 91 that's sold nere in Oz, scary stuff.
