Valve Stem Seals

Hi all. Dad rebuilt the engine after our incendiary valve incident at last year's historics, more of a freshen up than a total rebuild actually. We ran the car in at the TTT day in Feb without any problems, however last weekend it began to smoke a bit and got a bit worse by the end of the weeknd. Still running very strong so we figured it was only a valve seal. Further investigation this week confirmed our suspicion, No 1 exhaust valve stem seal had parted with the head and is riding on the valve.

The head has double valve springs so the original spring seat has been cut to a narrower I.D. Can anyone recommend a good set of stem seals to use?

I've done a bit more research on this topic and have come across the Teflon vs Viton debate. Anyone here have any inputs on this one??

I've just gone to double valve springs now as well, so hopefully I'm up not for this problem as well. What brand where these?
I had felpro ones installed.

Look at DATTO 1600 or Holden 202 valve stem seals guys.

Hi Darren, dad got them from the last place that did work on the head. Investigating a bit further today dad found that the exhaust valve guides on 1 & 4 were excessively worn. It appears that when the head was last worked on only the inlet guides were replaced (to suit unleaded) and there appears to have been nothing done with the exhaust side. We figure that all the slop along with my heavy right foot has contributed to the seal's demise.

Same problem with me on the F2000 at Lakeside 50th Formula meeting..mine are new Kent kit ones but have not split...just popped...thought I had lunched a new engine and head..bloody frustrating...lost the weekend..enty fees...accomodation..plus the 3 hour trip each way....I am pretty over Pommy engines...I had enough of this crap with Cooper Ss...thought I learnt my lesson...

NOW that is an expensive weekend, plus loosing out on a weekend of fun which is the part I tend to enjoy most (just driving as fast as I want with out getting booked!).
