Thanks Darren,
Thinking about giving these guys a go with a custom piston to suit.

There are quite a few manufacturers in the US and they are usually in the $200-250 US per rod bracket
My choice would be Cunningham at around $220 each for a custom rod which are a 2 piece forging not a single like most and have a ball shaped little end bore that they roll knurl the bushing material into so the bushing will never squeeze out and is as hard as hell anyway and come with their own version of a CARR bolt which if anyone has ever replaced a CARR bolt will know what they are worth on their own and more than some rods alone

Thanks Danny for this information.
Using std Pinto crank, basing the rod on an L16 with a slightly narrower BE to suit, do standard Nissan big end bearings work best in this combination? I could specify a standard pinto BE however then I loose the opportunity to destroke the engine to bring it in to the 2 litre cat?
I am just trying to work out the best configuration for the BE on the rod?
Any thoughts welcomed.

To be honest if you're only going to use a standard crank I would save your money and use a set of Nissan L16 rods and spend the money on a better clutch and flywheel or on the cynilder head

Is the concern with the standard crank the fact that you need to machine down the journals by so much or just the fact that it is a standard crank? I was lead to believe that these were quite acceptable for 8500 - 9000 rpm?
The question remains with the L16 piston BE width is too large for a std crank. The BE width needs to be machined down to fit? Does everyone use standard Nissan bearings and do these need to be machined down in width too?
If I were to buy standard Nissan L16 pistons I probably wouldnt get much change out of $400 by the time I purchased and prepared them if I have to pay someone to do it.
Thanks for the info RS its always good to get some positive feedback. A bit more research on these pistons seems to suggest that they are re machined chinese pistons? Which means that they are quite expensive at $880 a set?
Thanks Plod

Hi Plod
Grinding the crank to suit the l16 rods still leaves 50mm journals
Maybe .010-015" per side needs to be groung of the sides of the rods to make them fit (cant remember exactly how much)
Std Datsun bearings still fit after that

Cant use pinto pistons , datto rods are longer than ford
I used VW pistons, there are other options too, this has been pretty well covered in a lot of other posts over the years
