I have been discussing the eligibility of using the 205 block in a Pinto motor under the CAMS Tarmac Rally Tech Regs - Classic on another forum

I have not been able to get any hard info or facts as to whether I can use this block.

My argument is (and correct me where I am wrong) that the 205 block IS a Pinto block and is an evolution of it rather than a different block altogether. I am therefore not substituting but using the correct block.

CAMS' argument to me (via 2 emails) is that the 205 block is post 1982 and is not dimensionally the same as it is heavier. It is therefore not allowed.

I need to draw on your respective experiences as I am sure somebody is either running this block under these regs (I am told this is definitely happening in at least Targa West), is in a position of authority to officially comment, or can point me in the direction I need to go.

Basically help!!!!!!!!!

PS - please do not turn this into a thread about the pros and cons of the 205 vs standard block. I know that I do not NEED a 205 so just bear with me and overlook that bit

Same problem in the UK...Well at least 3 years ago it was anyway.

They won't allow the 205 block Pinto for Historics.
Stupid I reckon as it just escalates the costs of an already expensive sport. If you open it up to everyone then you don't get an advantage.

Thanks Mark. I guess historics are trying to represent the vehicles pretty much as they were int he day. Classics is a little more loose in the regulations (eg 6 links and many many freedoms).

I am so confused about the motorsport 'system'. I cannot find out who holds the final say.....CAMS make the regs (bless them), scrutineers check cars against the regs but then are permitted to interpret those regs. One scrut may allow, another may not.

I do not want to front events not knowing if the car will get through scutineering or not.

I also spoke with racetune in WA today who told me the same story - they use to use 205 blocks but a few years ago there was some "fuss" and now they have to use the standard blocks

Can you recall who you spoke to there?
